That Boy with Asperger’s

Until you’d encountered that first child with Asperger’s, you’d started, questioning the things you’d encountered, and, you’d used the experiences, the knowledge you’d gained from this first young child, to help the parents of another child, to help them get the right help they needed for their son, translated…

In my forties, I’d gotten to know my self through caring for others.

He was, a young boy with Asperger’s that’s given all of his school instructors huge headaches, he’d been kicked out of several afterschool program one by one.  In a chance encounter, his parents learned of the free homework help sessions, and wanted to try it out for him.  At first, his mother worried that because I didn’t have training in special eds, that I wouldn’t know how to interact with this boy, so after every single sessions, she’d asked me how the classroom sessions went.  Later, she’d found, that we got along, dandy, that her son managed to finish all of his, assignments, and she’d, commended me for being, patient.  But I knew, that I’m, anything but, and, I’d felt, bashful over receiving this compliment from her, and, felt, that there was, this unknown connection I had with, this young boy for some reasons.

a list of traits that cane be used for indicators, but formal diagnoses are still, necessary for confirmations

To get to know more about Asperger’s Syndrome, I’d, researched online, found an informal questionnaire for assessment, and, being driven by my own curiosities, I’d, assessed the child, and, I’d, scored forty-three out of fifty.  At that moment, it was like, the light bulb came on suddenly, and, all of my situations from when I was young, I’d found that answer for suddenly: growing up with my three sisters, I’d much enjoying playing by myself; my mother jokingly told the guests, that I’m, autistic; my younger sister had flipped through the magazines that were given to us, and she was surprised and asked me, why did I mark the points on there, as it was, leisure reading for us; and I’d, shown my classmate that furry caterpillar I’d found, and it’s, shocked them so much…………

I’m ever the more grateful, for meeting up with this young boy, seeing how he grew, and I’d, reviewed over my own childhood moments too, and helping others; one day, a sister from church poured her hear tout to me, that her son in preschool had gotten into too much trouble, that the teacher went all out in taking care of her son, and couldn’t take care of anything else in the class.  As she’d, described the situations to me, it’s, as if, that familiar scene came back again.  In my suggestions, she took her son to the hospital for a diagnoses, surely, another, boy with, Asperger’s, another life with all the wonders, the twists, turns, the ups and the downs……………

So, this is, how you’d, figured yourself out, because the child that was left in your care started showing the signs you’d shown when you were young too, and, because you are more educated, than your own parents, that’s why, you were able to, figure out a way to connect with the children you work with, and, get their parents to help their own young, to have the children correctly diagnosed, so they can continue to receive the right kind of assistance they will need in their lives.
