The neighbors told, that Chou is moderately mentally handicapped, has three sons, her husband was a retired serviceman, died a few years back, she and her eldest son lived off of assistance from the government and their savings; her second and third sons are severely handicapped, and had been living in the home for decades.
Lin was found as having edema on both his legs, and as he’d known that his mother passed, other than getting up and out to get the meals for himself, he’d, sat in that same spot, seemingly to be mentally distressed, but he’d refused to get taken to the hospital for treatment, stated, “I’m fine, why would I need to see a doctor?”
The social services unit of Social Services Department of Taoyuan told, Chou fitted to the requirement of government assistance for low income, she received $7,759 N.T. by the month from the government, her eldest, Lin was her legal guardian; Lin wasn’t found well, that they’d set up a social work to check up on him.
The head of social services department unit, Liu told, that Lin is a case of special concerns, that he will get to understand what’s happened in his life, after he receives consensus from Lin on the home visits, the social services will then assess his ability to live on his own, his communications, his mental states, and if there’s a need for intervention psychologically, then, the social services will call up the local sanitation offices to place him.
The man in charge of the local borough told, that the elderly woman is getting cremated on the 21st, that he will help with her final affairs, and seek out social resources, and hoped that the government can intervene soon, so Lin can get treatments that he needs at the hospital.
And so, this, is another tragedy that’s occurred in the world, this man with mental incapacities stayed with his mother’s body for a very long time, to accompany her, and had it not been the neighbors who’d smelled something rancid, heaven knows how much longer the man would have to stay with his own mother’s dead body, and this showed, just how bad the means of life can get for those who needed the help from the society, but can’t receive the assistance they’re in need of.
