The Instructor Led the Students to Entering into the Science Fairs, Helping Those Children Who are Falling Behind Find Their Confidences Back in Learning

An instructor who inspired his students, to motivate themselves in learning, helped them build up that self-confidence, and changed their, lives, off of the Newspapers, translated…

The Dunhwa Middle School instructor, Cheng had taken his students to competing in the national and international science fairs, the IMC international math competitions, and gotten a high remark; and those who aren’t in the academics all believed, that only the most excellent of students can compete in the science fairs, but he’d once, coached the students who didn’t have enough motivation to learn, and they’d, performed wonderfully.  He said, the students who have lowered motivations for learning had yet to develop their ability to learn, that in the guidance of the instructors, they can, find the way to solve the problems that come to them, and he’d always helped his students find that lost confidence back, in the oral presentations he had for his class, and in learning.

Cheng had been an instructor for more than two decades, as he worked in the counseling office, he’d found, that the students who goes to see the school counselors are of lower self-confidence levels, and he had, used his background in mechanical engineering, took the students, entering into the science fairs, to help them find that lost self-confidence.

Cheng’s most memorable, was as he’d asked a student to get into the science fairs, this student didn’t have enough motivations for learning, didn’t make high enough grades, at first, the student’s homeroom instructor was too worried, “he couldn’t even finish his regular assignments, can he really, finish a science fair project?”, one day, the instructor asked this student, what was the happiest thing he does in school?  The student told, that it was the moment the final bell ring; he’d asked him, if he was willing to, work on a science project together, to help the time he spends in school get better?  The student worried that he wasn’t capable enough, and turned him down, and told him, “nobody thought that I could, I don’t even have enough confidence.”

Later, this student showed interest in the willingness to go into the science fair, and discussed with him his topic of research, and, they’d, discussed the process of getting the project finished, and, so many times, the student got so tired that he’d not wanted to continue, but, he’d, kept pulling the student back on track, and, for several weekends, the two squatted in the science laboratory from morning to evening, and, the student received an excellence remark on the project, and he’d excited told him, “I finally did it!”

“So long as the proper guidance is given, the students will find that joy in learning.”  Cheng told, that the schools, the instructors should respect the learning differences of every student, and, for students who are intermediate in their skills level, the instructors can guide them, to help them find what’s interesting, that way, the students will become, enthusiastic in the subjects, and, if the high-pressure methods were used, it may turn the students to hating school and the studies, which would be, a shame.

In his twenty-plus years of teaching career, as his former students bumped into him, they’d, always, shared with him the goings on of their lives, there were rarely those who just, “turned around and left”.  He said, “so long as you help the students changed toward a more positive direction, and they remember you, then, you’d, become an influential instructor.” And so, this school instructor helped his students find back the love of learning, by not using that high-pressure teaching method, but allowed them to make the discoveries on their own, and the students found that school is enjoyable, and, became more and more active in their own learning processes, and this instructor achieved what a school teacher is meant to become: a guide, a mentor, to his students.
