Despite how the long-term care programs are now, “fully-functional”, this is still, happening here! Off of the Front Page Sections, translated…
The sixty-nine-year-old man, Liu in Tainan, suffered a stroke three years ago, became demented, bedridden since, his wife, Lee (age 65) who is his primary caretaker also had a stroke, and she has diabetes, at the end of last year, she could no longer withstand the pressures of care, she’d stabbed her husband with a fruit knife, killing him, then, attempted to commit suicide by stabbing herself in the chest too, she was saved; the Tainan District Court found that Lee turned herself in, plus the three children all spoke on their mother’s behalf, begging for mercy, hoping that she would be shown leniency, the courts gave her two years six months in prison, this can be appealed.
The Collective Courts of Tainan found, that after Lee committed the murder, she’d gone home immediately to tell her daughter, told her to call the police, and this qualified her for turning herself in, and, her sentencing was, reduced. Lee had been taking care of her husband on her own long-term, she also had a stroke, and other conditions, the accumulated mental, psychological, physical stresses, and it got worse and worse, she couldn’t find a fitting outlet to get rid of her stresses.
the same thing that happened int the movie, the clips, from YouTube
(yes, the link works!)
She considered, that if she becomes bedridden in her future, she will add to the stress of her own young, that for the sake of her children’s future, from the heart of mercy of a mother, plus, her own experiences of shouldering up the primary care responsibilities of her husband, all the trials, finally made her crack, she’d stabbed her husband to death, and, she’d, attempted suicide afterwards.
The Collective Courts found, that Lee’s act isn’t what we want to see, that her situation is sympathetic, that it’s not the same as the murders that stemmed out of deep hate, money, or random murders. So, the act of her turning herself in after murdering her husband, qualified her for a reduced sentence.
Three years ago, Liu had a stroke, became demented, couldn’t take care of himself, he’d deteriorated, can no longer speak, his wife, Lee took care of him wholly, and she had a stroke four years ago, has diabetes. At around eight in the morn on December 31st of last, at home in the downstairs bedroom, she’d, stabbed her husband to death, then, stabbed her own chest to attempt suicide; her daughter came home, and saw, Lee told her daughter what had happened, told her to call the police, the paramedics lifted Lee to the hospital, the police arrived at the hospital, Lee turned herself in for murder then.
The three children of the family were left broken hearted over the death of their father, and yet, because their mother had a stroke, diabetes, and other physical conditions, couldn’t withstand the stresses from caretaking long-term, is diagnosed with a mental condition, they’d all begged the judge for mercy on their mother; as the D.A. indicted her, they’d asked the judge to consider the special circumstances of the woman’s situation.
And so, this is another, tragedy that stemmed out of long-term care, and, because there’s NOT enough support for these sole caretakers, the pressures of caretaking built up too high, and the sole caretaker cracks, and commits, murder. All of this could’ve been prevented, had there been, more social support, psychological support, provided to these, sole caretakers, but there wasn’t, because there’s still a huge lacking in the systems of provisions of long-term care.
