Burning the Ants, Burned Down the House? Two Elderly Who Died

There was a house fire at an old house on Guofu Street in Hualien yesterday afternoon, the two immobilized elderly couldn’t make it out in time, and got burned to charcoal, there was another who was severely injured, and got taken to the emergency rooms.  The police found, that there were, five residents of the home, Fang, a woman looked after four other elderly on her own, the reason of the fire seemed to have been one of the demented elderly man picking up a lighter, tried to burn the ants, that’s caused the fire, the police and fire department is trying to get to the facts currently.

The local fire department of Hualien received a call around one in the afternoon, that there’s a fire on Guofu Street, as they arrived, the firefighters saw a house going up in flames, it took the firefighters a total of about twenty minutes to put out the blazes, as they entered, they’d found the bedrooms on the right of the resident had a body each, and, they’d identified them as the ninety-three-year-old elderly homeowner, Pan, and the sixty-four-year-old woman, Chen, both were immobilized. And, on the room to the left, the officials managed to rescue the eighty-four year old elderly, Cheng, after she was rushed to the hospital, her heart was, resuscitated.

The police clarified, that Pan had been bed ridden long-term, his wife, unable to move around and about freely, they’d hired the woman in her forties, Fang to help care for them, and, the related couple, Chen and the sixty-seven-year-old elderly man, Chang also moved in later; Chen was immobilized, Chang has dementia, and are both under Fang’s care.

Fang told, that yesterday afternoon after lunch was served, she and her son were sorting through the things outdoors, then suddenly, they both heard a loud “bang!”, and they saw that the house caught on fire, and other than the elderly, Chang, the other three elderly were all trapped inside the home, she’d called up others to try and save them, but the fire was too raging, and they can only call it in.

Chang the demented elderly looked confused, he told, that there were so many ants by the hillside, he took the lighter out of his room, wanted to burn them all away, then, went outside to go to the bathrooms, that he didn’t know what happened after that.  Fang told, that from before, Chang used the lighter, to set the pillows on fire, she’d already hidden the lighters away, she didn’t know how he’d gotten his hands on it again.

There are complex relationships to the members of the stay, if Fang is an unlicensed caretaker, or if the place was an illegal nursing home, the police and the social services is clarifying it right now.

And so, it seemed, that this woman is running an illegal nursing home, without the certifications, and, the demented elderly set the fire, but he probably won’t get charged with manslaughter, because of his, diminishing capacity for thought, and, this still just showed, how you need to get CERTIFIED trained professionals, to WATCH those elderly people with dementia and other conditions that came in the elderly years.
