Raising Her Pair of Grandchildren on Her Own, Noted as a Good Caretaker in the Teachers’ Eyes, She’d Once Disclosed, “I’m Getting Too Old for This”
The seventy-five elderly woman, Chen is alone in taking care of her pair of grandchildren, her eldest grandchild, thirteen, with multiple disabilities, on the eighth, he’d refused to go to school, and refused to take his medications, started screaming, hitting her, Chen lost control, used a rope, and, strangled her own eldest grandson, and after she’d calmed back down, she’d come to the realization, that she’d, killed him. The police took her in on murder, the D.A. asked the courts to have her into custody, and the younger brother of the child was, left in the care of a relative.
This tragedy occurred in an old mansion in Tanzi District, Taichung, Chen was left to care for her grandsons, the eldest grandson was severely mentally retarded, with serous emotional disorder, on the eighth, he’d refused to go to school, and refused to take his medications, Chen called in a sick day for him, the adolescent kept on screaming, shouting, in anger, Chen strangled her grandson with a rope, then, left the house.
About one and a half hour later, Chen returned home, found her eldest grandson lying on the living room floor, not moving, she’d reported to the police, “I strangled my own grandson to death.” As the police and paramedics arrived, the adolescent was clearly, deceased, with strangulation marking on his neck, Chen sat dumbfounded, stared at the body. Her daughter arrived shortly, the elderly woman started melting down, the two held each other and cried.
The elementary school instructor told, that the boy was severely handicapped emotionally and mentally, the grandmother was the primary caretaker of him and his younger brother, “the grandmother loved him so, there’s the special buses from the school, but she would take the bus every day, to drop off and pick up her eldest grandson.”
The teacher told, that the deceased, from first to fourth grade, had been okay, and after he went into the fifth grade, he’d become, more easily emotional, and started showing aggression toward others, and, the time he’d fussed became longer too, she’d suggested the grandmother to take him to treatment, the grandmother was more than compliant, and would tell her of how the grandson was, after he was medicated.
Last week, on the assignment books, Chen wrote on the assignment book, “the bruising on his bac, it was me”, the homeroom instructor asked about what happened, Chen told, that the grandson misbehaved, and she’d, disciplined him physically, the counselor originally set up to visit the home on the sixteenth, and, on the eighth, came the news of her strangling her own grandson.
The Social Services told, that the deceased is a case of the Social Services Support Center, that assistance money was assigned by the month to the family. There is a report on record of Chen, leaving her own grandson alone at home, and normally, there were, the relatives who’d given her the support in caretaking. And, could it be that the burdens of care got too enormous that she’d, lost it, it’s still to be cleared. Her other grandson was left in the care of another family relative.
The neighbors told, that the woman’s son and daughter-in-law passed many years ago, and she was left alone, in raising up the two grandsons, that the young man would greet the neighbors regularly, but when he was having the outbursts, he’d started screaming and yelling; Chen loved her two grandsons so, but had disclosed to them, “I’m too tired of caring for them both.”
And so, this elderly woman, she’d, finally, CRACKED, and, she’s left to care for her two grandchildren, with her eldest grandson being, severely handicapped, and, without the proper support professionally, she couldn’t deal, and as he’d lost control, she’d finally, cracked, and, murdered her own grandson, and to think, this could’ve been, easily prevented, had this elderly woman been given the proper support in raising up her own young grandsons…
