On the education of the students here, helping them become more self-motivated, becoming the one in charge, of their own, learning, processes, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
A lot of the students, during their time away from school, continued on learning, and started, keeping up with the methods, the habits they found to work, in their, self-motivated learning processes, and how are they, going to, continue this once school resumes? The information-technology instructor of Minchuan Elementary School in Kaohsiung, the lecturer of the counseling group of high school, Yeh shared his practical advice:
The parents need to separate the learning, and the entertainment, if it’s time for learning, no need to zoom in on the children’s progresses, just make your children feel your, “presence” would be enough.
like this…
Like for my own children, the time I’d allowed them to use the high-tech devices is after supper, I will stay with him to for an hour, he does his homework assignments, I read my books. I will, set up the schedules, how much he should learn, then, head over to the evaluation of learning platforms to check his progresses. When the children are learning, the parents shouldn’t intervene overtly, unless the children ask for your help, then, you offer it.
The self-motivated learning processes in the high school levels are vast amounts of reading materials, find your own topics of interests, then, it will, motivate you to find the data of the specific subjects on your own, for instance, there are a ton of online resources available to students in high school at the Taipei City Library systems, as well as the national libraries too.
If the child can find that interest area first, the adults must inquire them on it more, and to observe. For instance, a high school student told, that he “wanted to not sustain any injuries while playing basketball”, the adults can inquire, “do you get hurt a lot playing?”, “Do you enjoy playing basketball?”, then, help the student clarify, that there are two methods to tackle this: one, to not play basketball again, two, to help the body heal up faster. Then, allow the student to set up his own goal to protect himself while playing, and the student will be very enthusiastic, in finding the resources that will help him not sustain injuries while playing basketball on his own.
The self-learning processes should not be focused on progresses, or the academic, it should be based off of the students’ own personal interest profiles, to set up a core learning method that’s, right for the self to follow.
And so, this, is something new, instead of the normal, sitting in class, with the teachers yapping on the podium, and the students, taking notes in the lecture halls, the proposed method of learning is student or learner-oriented, and, when the learning process is motivated by the learner/student her/himself, then, the student will surely, become, more enthusiastic, in finding out more about the topics of her/his interests.
