Saving the Developmentally Delayed Children, the Taipei Hospital Started the Reading-Together Programs

A man with a vision, and he’s able to, make his own vision, of a better community, better life for those children from the distant-regions here come true, off of the Newspapers, translated…

“The U.S. is closer for the physicians to go to than Hualien”, the words of Bo, the founder of the Mennuo Hospital touched Chen who studied medicine; before he graduated in 2015, he’d taken a leave of absence because of his caner, and selected to involve himself with the “Schweitzer 2.0” projects, gone to Namasia region to stay, he’d found that the children in the tribes are, developmentally delayed, and now he’s working in Taipei, and would head to the distant-regions to help the children with their literacy skills, to help them turn their lives around.

Chen is thirty-five-years-old, born in Changwha, her mother was a physician at a clinic, he’d followed in her path.  During his time in medical school, he’d gone to African with the Doctors without Borders program, he witnessed the hardships of not having enough medical provisions.  As he’d returned, he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, had to drop out of medical school on the eve of finishing his studies, and realized, that nothing is a given in life.

In 2015, Chen arrived in Namasia, spent six months in observing the problems of developmentally delayed children in the distant regions, found, that there’s a twenty-percent rate, mostly were of language, words delay; that it’s three times more than the estimates of W.H.O., he’d found, that the American Pediatric Association mentioned of the reading prescription to treat, to help the children develop the language processing in their brains, and, started applying the methods in Namasia locally.

“let’s read together!”

The family visits weren’t successful in the beginning, a lot of the parents are in doubt of the read-along processes, and the effects.  Chen used communications, conversations to help change the parents views of conversing with their young; six months later, he’d gone to U.S. to learn more, in May of 2016, he’d set up the Taiwanese Open-Arms Reading Foundation, to help set up a working method for the parents-and-children read-along programs in the distant-regions.  He believed, that the experiences he took from Namasia was very precious, that read-along was like vaccination, not only can it prevent, and change the children’s developmentally delays, it can also change the relationships of parents and children, with the physicians too.  He’d walked out a path, and this path extended outward, he’d extended the read-along program, from Namasia, Kaohsiung to up north in the coastal areas, and in the mountains a well, and he’d led more physicians, more medical students, as well as volunteers, to be involved in this, engineer of hope project.

“Walking a different path, you will see, a different sight.”, Chen encourages his younger schoolmates to enter into the distant regions, to use the success models they learned from internationally, to help improve the workings of distant-region medical care provisions, and as they all look back in the future, they will find, that their lives are, changed forever, by what they were, able to do.

And so, this man saw a need, and, researched into the methods, and, found a way, to make a differences in the lives of the distant regions communities, and it’s his means of realizing that there’s this need, and finding a way, to provide for the needs of the locals, that’s made a huge difference, to the distant-region communities here.
