The hikes of cases of domestic violence and abuse, now that, we’re all, STUCK at home, and “extra” problem that came, with the MERS-CoV outbreaks, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
There’s a concept in the social education majors called “Summer Loss”, meaning, that those students from lower economic statuses, due to the entire summer of not being in school, as school started back up after the summers, they’d fallen, even, farther behind. To reduce the impacts of this problem, the Department of Education pushed forth the “joys of learning program for summer vacation”, to help the students from the lower end of the socioeconomic statuses to maintain a certain level of skill set.
don’t know how long ago this was, but it went up, seven-fold!
With the spread of MERS-CoV, the Department of Education announced the cessations of school to extend to June 14th, which was less than three weeks until graduation. If in the few days that come ahead, the spread of MERS-CoV doesn’t slow down, then, the halting of school is surely, naturally to, extend, through the entire fall semester, and this adds to an extra summer vacation time, and, it would surely, increase the summer losses even more.
The Economists of last April stated “closing the schools down will impact the students from lesser economic backgrounds for life, and it would be next to impossible for the students to catch up again.”, the article mentioned many cases from many countries, stated the visible impacts of MERS-CoV on the students of lesser backgrounds, and social justices too.
But what worried us more, is “The Shadow Pandemic”. The United Nation on “Violence Against Women Day” during November of last year proclaimed, “Since the start of MERS-CoV, there’s a constant hike in acts of violence against women and girls, especially in the realms of domestic violence”. The cover of Times Magazines in is February volume this year was “Domestic Violence is the epidemic of the MERS-CoV Pandemic”, reported on how a lot of the families, because of the at-home quarantines, unstable work, reduced income, increased amount of pressures, alcoholism, domestic violence, divorce, mental disorders of depression, are at an all-time high compared to last years’ records.
We are worried, that in the four months’ worth of at-home quarantine that Taiwan is under, there would be a sharp increase of violence in the families like it had been in foreign nations, causing the negative influence for the students’ lives alternatively. We deeply hope, that the Department of Education, other than helping the students to learn at home, more importantly, working alongside the offices of internal affairs, department of social and health welfare, to provide a social safety net, to protect every child from living under domestic violence, to not get sexually harassed, or raped.
Yeah, good luck! Because this is a problem, that came alongside with the outbreaks of MERS-CoV, with the parents, cramped up at home, and they’re more than likely to, get on one another’s bad sides, and, if they have children, the children then become, the parents’, PUNCHING bags, and, there’s, no way around that, and this is just an added new problem that MERS-CoV can bring to this community here, and what’s worse, is that the neighbors are even easier to ignore the cries (like they don’t already do?), and, nobody hears the cries of these children who’d been, silenced!
