Recently, the discussions of reduced birthrate came back up again, based off of the C.I.A. in the U.S., Taiwan had the lowest birthrate in the entire global population in 2021. In 2020, Taiwan had, formally, marched, into the negative birthrates, and the reduction of birthrate is now, a matter of, national security; but, if we can’t resolve the matter of reduced birthrate, then, we must, tackle the matter from the standpoint of how to age successfully.
The average birthrate in Taiwan is 1.07, and, in these past couple of years, a lot of children were from migrated women. Which clearly showed, how a lot of women in Taiwan don’t want to get married, or that were married, but not wanted to have children, or couldn’t.
The matter of not wanting to be married and not having children, should be seen as two separate issues. A lot of modern day women don’t want to marry, because they’d felt, that marriage is mostly about, sacrifice for women, the woman had to leave her own family of origin, to shoulder up another nuclear family, or to adapt herself to an extended family. while it’s much easier for a man after the marriage, someone’s there to help with the household chores, to help make the money, and they get to seek out self-fulfillments, and, on the better sounding of it, it’s man in charge of outside the homes, women in charge of the home fronts. But, a lot of modern day women are working, and most of the women often, burned on, both ends, it’s a wonder, why women don’t want to, get married.
If the men don’t change their beliefs, a lot of modern day women still wouldn’t want to be married. Because economical independence for a woman is self-reliant, and, why should we women, put our husbands’ families before our own after we married? Some of these, traditional beliefs, must be, changed.
And, the reason for not wanting children, it may be because modern day people are marrying late, and by the time the primes had come to pass, they can’t, have children. And, the rising costs of resources, housing, etc., etc., etc., and for the nuclear families, there would be the need for dual-income to survive, plus the children’s education, and, the families may have to, file for broke, or, live not as well, which caused people to not have children, or not have enough children. If the government can help out the enterprises, to set up the cheaper daycare program which is convenient, maybe, it can help these dual-income families out a bit.
And at the end, I want to discuss how we can, age gracefully. Aging successfully, is reliant on the work of the individuals, the helps from the medical professionals, as well as the government systems of long-term care programs.
On the individual level, the elderly population need to work hard to upkeep the health status, for instance, keeping the minds active, training the muscles, cardio, etc., etc., etc., saving up on the energies regularly, that when, as illnesses hit, you won’t, drop all the way to the area of needing assistance in living, seek out medical professionals early, so you can, regain your own, independent living statuses.
In these past couple of years, the government started zooming in on long-term care, but the societies can’t just have the facilities for it, btu also, the gyms to train the stamina, and, everybody get active with the physical therapists and the coaches to exercise, with someone leading the individuals, it’s easier to find the motivations to get active and get moving.
And if the elders at home are healthy, then, the middle generations would have more heart, to have the next generations of children, to give them the education they needed, and from time to time, the parents who are grandparents can help look after the grandchildren, and maybe this, is the alternative effect of aging successfully.
And so, these two huge issues are, strictly, interrelated to each other, because we the middle generations (the children) are not making enough to get our own lives going well enough, or that we’re too busy, making enough to make our own ends meet, that by the time we’re ready to start poppin’ them children out, we’re, WAY past, our reproductive deadlines, and, no children, and no children means, nobody’s gonna, take CARE of our generation when we’re, old and senile, demented, incompetent to look after ourselves, and, this is still a difficult subject to tackle, and it’s not going to work just because the government’s, handing out ALL that FREE cash for babies we can, “CRANK” out, or how there are the sustenance of money for the daycare programs, it’s NOT that simple!
