The only way you can, of breaking away from your families’ socioeconomic statuses is through education, and this school principal sees that!  Off of the Front Page Sections, translated…

“I was born in the distant-regions, into poverty-stricken means, I believe, that through education, the students here can rise up above”.  The principal, Su of Dacheng Middle School in Taoyuan, in of the Atayal tribe in the Fuxing District, he’d recalled his own path to becoming educated, living in the distant-regions, he’d had many teachers who’d treated their students like they were their own children, which made him set up his goal of becoming a “teacher like them.”

Su had been working in the field of education for twenty-five years to date, back then, he was assigned as an English instructor after he’d graduated from college, but his alma mater, Jieshou Middle School didn’t have an opening, so he’d, selected the Daxi Middle School to teach at instead, but the reason of why he’d chosen the school was because, he “couldn’t let go of the native children”, and because in the Fuxing District, there were the parents of the children who are working in Daxi, therefore, the student makeup are of native children majority.

On the subject of differences of level in education of the cities and the rural areas, Su told, that as he was growing up, he’d not felt it, but, as he’d grown up and turned back and looked, he’d found, that the education of the native children had been lacking, and this has nothing to do with the amount of resources given to the children, but mostly, the parents’ of these children’s socioeconomic status, and how the parents were, raised themselves.

He’d Taught for Twenty-Five Years, and Insisted on Using Different Methods to Teach Every Child Differently

Su pointed out, that the parents of the urban regions due to having a higher socioeconomic status, they are not only willing to place the money, the energies in the children’s academic developments, but also the talent classes, and looking at the parents from the distant-regions, they’re of working class, and they couldn’t have the mind to pay enough attention on their children’s scholastic performances, let alone the talent courses, most of the members of the community only want the minimum provisions of life: food and shelter.

Su started working as a teacher, then, passed the certification to manage the offices in school, then, finally got qualified as a school principal, and finally, in 2011, returned back to his alma mater, as a principal, he’d called out, “I’d, achieved one of the most important goals of my life now!”, in the three years he’d worked at the Jieshou Middle School, he’d carried the beliefs of using each student’s specific learning methods to teach them the skills, to push forth the multiple development of the various kinds of intelligence in the programs of instruction at the school, he’d set up many new rules for the school.

Fighting for the Free-of-Charge Nightly Study Sessions at School, the Increased Bus Routes

Of them, including getting the funding for the students in his school, to add the free eighth, ninth periods of study hall, as well as the nightly study sessions at the school, and worked alongside the Taoyuan Bus Company, added another bus route after the final, so the kids who’d attended the nineth period in school can have a ride home.  “The kids don’t have to cram during the eighth, nineth periods”, Su pointed out, that students will be able to select the activities they’re interested in, to play sports, or to keep studying the textbooks.  In the winters and summers, the school set up the hunters camp, teaching the students how to hunt, to make the traps, to catch the fish, etc., etc., etc. to help them gain an in-depth understanding of the Atayal tribal culture, and all of his hard work mad the Jieshou Middle School the ONLY distant-region school in the entire country to add more classes that were being offered to the students.

Su was later transferred to the Wenchang Middle School, and now, he’d taken the role of the principal at DAcheng Middle School.  He said, it didn’t matter where I’m transferred to, I’d needed to take into considerations the geography of the school I’m working in, to have different actions I take, he’d used education, to turn his own life around, and hoped, that he can become, the key figure to helping the students to turn their own lives, around too.

And so, this man saw the needs of the children in the tribes, and because he was from a similar background, so now, he’s, giving back to his community, by offering the knowledge he’d acquired through his own education, to help the children in his tribe turn their lives around.
