The shooter, Long claimed that his motives was sex addiction, but the police aren’t ruling out racism as a cause. The White House criticized that the former president, Trump using the term of “Wuhan Virus” to call MERS-CoV, which had, elevated the hatred that the society had toward Asians in the community.
The Associated Press stated, that this is the SIXTH large-scale shooting, it’s also, the most severe since the shooting in August of 2019 in Dayton, Ohio.
On the seventeenth, the American president, Biden stated, that the methods of “going after Asians in the community” is “quite unsettling”, and the first Asian Vice President, Harris also stated, that she “will stand with the Asian communities”.
The spokesperson for the White House, Psaki stated, that the Biden government understood the rise of attacks on Asians in U.S., “without a doubt, the predecessor’s calling MERS-CoV ‘Wuhan virus’ caused the inaccurate, unfair cognitions toward Asian communities, which also, elevated the levels of the threats.”
The shooter, Long opened fire at three massage parlors, the eight victims who were shot, six were Asians, including four Koreans, two Asians, he was charged with eight counts of premeditated murder, one count of felony assault, Long admitted that he’d committed the crimes on his own, that he was a sex addict, that the purpose of his attack for this time is to “destroy temptations”, claimed, that the massage parlors are a source of his temptations, but the investigators aren’t ruling out racism as a motive.

After Long went on a shooting rampage, he escaped, several hours later, he was caught, about two hundred miles south of Atlanta. The local county police, Reynolds stated, that he was able to make an arrest so quickly, because Long’s parents upon seeing the photos on the news, immediately called up the police, and, gave them the cell phones so Long was tracked down. The police told, that Long had plans to commit more shootings in Florida.
The assistant manager of the Atlanta Police Department stated that they’re currently, getting more information on the case, and they’re not exactly sure if this case would be categorized as a hate crime yet.
The local sheriff’s department spokesperson stated, “the day before the shooting, Long had a good day, this was like the final straw”. And, the spokespersons of the sheriff’s department was found to have used racial slurs online, for calling MERS-CoV, the “Wuhan Virus”.
The very first Vietnamese Representative, Bee Nguyen stated, that this case seemed to have combined, “sex violence, hatred for women, and, racism”.
The mayor of Atlanta stated, no matter the motives, the suspect’s behaviors are “unacceptable, disgusting, and needed to be stopped.”
