Because as we get older, our reaction time slows, we can’t, act quickly enough, and this, is WHY extra measures are needed for these elderly people, who still wants to, get behind the wheels, and no, this is NOT ageism!  Off of the Newspapers, translated…

The elderly who drive themselves places need to be more careful.  The Department of Transportation estimated that from January to November of last year in Tainan, there were 166 traffic fatalities, and, of these, forty-five-percent were elderly, and the city government decided to set up the prevention task force, aimed at educating, bringing about more awareness, to the localities where these accidents occurred the most, to have the neighborhoods working hand-in-hand, to change the environment to safer for the elderly to get on the roads.  To help safeguard the safety of elderly, the police helped install the solar-powered, bike lights.

The head of transportation in Tainan, Wang said, because the fatality rates of elderly in traffic accidents are higher, they’d set up the specialist teams, and, the members of these teams will head into the localities, to bring about more awareness of safety on the roads.

The captain of the traffic squad in Tainan told, that they’d already asked the DMV to help assist the drivers ages seventy-five and older, to renew their licenses, to keep their statuses up to date, and, pushing forth the high-occupancy-vehicle measures, to make up for the lacking of the buses.  The police will continue to push forth the “fireflies”, helping to install the lights on the bikes.

The traffic fatalities last year in Taipei was 60, and, twenty-eight were over age 65, and, those injured were up to 33,785, and of these, 3,113 were sixty-five and older.

And so, you see, how unsafe it is, for the elderly to get on the roads, and this is still NOT ageism!  It’s for your own safety, elderly people, because, as we get older, our reaction times slowed down, and, we may not be able to react or act, quickly enough, when it calls for it, so, it’s best, that when we get to a certain age, we turn in the keys of our cars, no matter how good a driver we once were, it’s for our own safety, as for the welfare, of all those we may encounter in our, immediate, environments too.
