How this school instructor, had touched the lives of the students, that the students were willing, to keep the connections with him, for decades after they graduated, the school instructor SHOULD be a “guide”, to the students’, learning processes as is! Off of the Newspapers, translated…
“Teaching my students like they are my own young, they may be kinder to you than your own children”, the 78-year-old retired science instructor from Dong-Guan Elementary School in Tainan said, using praises, more than scolding, he’d become more of a friend to his own students, there were students, for the past twenty-nine years who’d, sent him the gifts on the three major Chinese holidays consecutively, there were the students who’d gone home to Tainan, visited their grandmothers first, then, him the second. He’d advised, that parents should NOT interfere with the children’s thinking, that the teachers should be brave, in accepting the challenges in teaching.
Chen told, he graduated from the Teacher’s College back in 1964, the very first school he’d taught in was the Haidong Elementary School, he’d ridden his bicycle to school daily, because he had the habits of bringing a banana to school to eat, one morning he’d forgotten, and asked his student, Yeh to buy him one the following day, and ever since, the student, Yeh would, buy him bananas.
Later as he’d returned back to his own hometown of Pingdong to teach, he’d not returned back to Tainan until 1990, and, as Yeh learned of this, for the following years, on the three major holidays, he’d brought two bundles of bananas for him, this continued on for nine years. To the tenth, Yeh asked him, “Teacher, is banana your favorite fruit?”, he’d told, that compared to the other fruits from earlier on, banana is cheapest, that’s why he’d bought it, but it was not his, favorite, and he has diabetes, and wouldn’t be fitting to consume that much of it, and since, this student started bringing him the nutritional foods.
As Chen told of this story, there’s that sense of pride and joy, in his being moved by his student, and stated, that every time the student, Yeh came, he’d brought his wife along with him.
The parents all wanted their young to achieve greatness, Chen recommends, that the parents should NOT interfere with the children’s thoughts, because, right and wrong are subjective, sometimes, the children’s thoughts and beliefs, may be even more valid than the instructors’.
And so, this man must’ve, done something right, to inspire his own students, and he’d touched the student so, that every single year after the student had, graduated, he’d still come back to visit him, and brought him what he thought was his, favorite fruit too, and this is the everlasting effect of a good school teacher on the students’, lives.
