The new trend in learning, I suppose…off of the Front Page Sections, translated…

The Universities Used the “Common Courses” of the First Years to Help Students Learn for the Rest of Their Lives

The newly reformed legislations on education focuses in on the self-motivated learning methods, not only is this hard for high school students, it’s hard for a lot of the students in college.  The various universities are planning to shorten the semesters to sixteen weeks from the original eighteen, encouraging the students to use the two extra weeks to learn on their own.  There were a lot of the professors who’d stated, that the students didn’t know how to get motivated to learn on their own.  The National Teacher’s University’s student affairs told, that the self-learning sessions don’t mean that the students are learning on their own, the school will use the common courses, to help the students acquire this ability to learn on their own.

The new high school curricula added a two to three hours’ self learning sessions, encouraging the students to make up a plan for what they’re learning actively, hoping that the students can start on this habit on learning on their own, but there are still, a ton of difficulties, in implementing this theory.

The survey by a magazine of the first year high school students found, that fifty-five of the surveyed students didn’t know the goals of these self-learning sessions, another forty-four percent stated they’re unsure of their college majors, and didn’t know how to begin self-learning.  The high school instructors analyzed, that the students here are too afraid of failures, that these self-learning sessions caused them even more pressure.

The principal of the Fuxing High School in Taipei, Liu pointed out, that self-learning sessions are for the students to learn from the mistakes they made, to alter the plans of learning that they set up for themselves.  As the students managed to acquire these abilities, they will have the chances of becoming learners for the rest of their lives.

The Banciao High School principal, Lai also said, that the self-motivated programs are hard to implement, but the plans always fall short of the changes, that the experiences of failing is also, quite precious, that it can help the students amend their learning goals the next time.

The assistant to the student affairs department of Taiwan National Teacher’s University, Hu stated, that self-motivated learning IS a key character of learning for life, that currently, the students across the various grades and levels of education are still, experimenting on what to do.  That the student affair’s department, through the “Common entrance level courses”, guiding the students to map out a blueprint for one’s own life, and the school had set up measures, to offer the needed academic counseling to students who are in need.

The newly set up curricula of 2019, stated, that the core goal of the newly amended legislation of education is to help motivate the desires to learn, to help students go after what they’re interested in, to help them become self-motivated in their own learning processes.  That the end goal of self-motivated learning, is to help the students say, “What I want to learn” on their own.  He’d suggested that the instructor acted as a guide, to help the students make the discoveries of themselves, but the teachers should NOT intervene too much into the learning process of the students.

So, this, is a brand new, ideal, from what this country “practiced” before, from before, the learning in school is teacher talks, students lowered their heads, take notes, and now, this new curricula calls for the more interactive approach, having more discussions, exchanges of ideas between the professors and the students, and this will work, in progression, you can’t just, implement the rules, and have all those professors trained the old ways, to dump all those, former years of experiences in teaching, of lecturing to the masses.
