Respect, Starts in the Family Units

How this mother used the opportunities, to EDUCATE her college age son!  Translated…

My son who’s boarding in university had come home, and, we’d set aside the times to shop around, to add more to our parent-child interactions.  We’d entered into a couture shop, and, he’d, subconsciously, handed me his, umbrella, as if asking “hey, help me with it!”, I’d, subconsciously, took the umbrella too.

Not long thereafter, my rational side took over, and I’d, thought, that something wasn’t, right with this frame—we’d not seen one another for two months, my son may be, enjoying his “special rights” as a son, but unfortunately, I’m not a “boy’s mama”.  I’d told him, “Son, shouldn’t you, carry your own things, you want to shop around without anything on you, so do I, I want to, walk, gracefully too.”  As he’d heard, he’d, immediately, taken the umbrella he’d left on me, with that apologetic smile.  I’d smiled, and told him, “I’m not an elegant woman, but I don’t want to, be a hag either!”, he’d nodded his head hard.  The making of a man, the upbringing into the adulthood years, it’s learning to respect one another, even if you’re, families.

This showed, how sometimes, we have the tendencies, to take our loved ones for granted, what they do for us, we’d taken as matter-of-fact, and we sometimes, just, need that wake up call, that this, is not what I am, supposed to do for you, like this mother helped her own college-age son understand.
