The Agape Awards for Instructors the Student Started Wailing Loud in Class, the School Teacher Working in the Distant Regions Visited the Home, Prevented a Tragedy

These instructors, really, DO, care a lot, a whole lot, for the wellbeing, and the welfare of their students, and their, families too, off of the Front Page Sections, translated…

The Professor Kun-Huei Huang Education Foundation hosted its “Bao-Jia Educational Agape Award”, there were a total of twelve school teachers who were awarded, of them, the head of the counseling office of Yu-Jen Elementary School in Taoyuan, Huang counseled many high-risk families, he’d found that a child started crying out repeatedly in class, he’d made the home visits, and prevented the tragedies of the parents hurting their own young because of economic difficulties of the household.  Huang stressed, “when we’re on the podium, teaching is our job, while the real education occurs, after we get off the podium.”

Huang who worked for the elementary school for twenty-seven years stated, that the school is located in the distant regions, and there are a lot of single-parent families, the cross-generation upbringings, the children in poverty stricken backgrounds too, he’d had a student who came from a household with very little economic support, the parents often argued over money, and they’d told the student “I will kill myself!”, the child worried that his father might commit suicide, and had some outbursts in class, started crying out of turn, he’d found that something wasn’t quite right with the student, immediately set up the visits to the student’s home; once the father took the child to school, and as the child was taken to school, the child broke down and cried, refused to go into the class, he’d gone up to find out what happened, and discovered the agricultural pesticides, he’d immediately gone to the student affairs office, immediately stopped this, possible tragedy.

Huang sighed, that even though the distant-region schools get the supports from the government and the social welfare foundations, but, the home backgrounds, and the hardships of the lives in the students’ homes, are in need of more care and concern.

The elementary school teacher from Chiayi, Lin worked for eighteen years in the distant region school, hoped that the kids aren’t just good in sports, but also, equally, intelligent too, pushed forth the reading, writing programs, and, had the school get the subscriptions of the children’s papers to be used as materials for education for her class, the kids in her class started submitting their writings in; four years ago, she’d started the walk-along-read-along program, led her class to trek across Taiwan, to help the students feel more connected to the land.

The special education instructor, Yang was the firstborn daughter of an agricultural family, in the traditional beliefs, she couldn’t study, but in her middle school years, she had a teacher who helped her with her family household economics a bit, so she could buckle down and study.  She’d dreamed of becoming a good teacher just like the teacher who’d helped her, doing all she possibly can, to give encouragements to her pupils.

And, these are, heartwarming stories, of amazing school teachers who are doing all that they can, to help the students make a difference in their own lives, instilling the positive attitudes of life in them, and the awards they received, is well, deserved.
