Was it the Pressures of Caretaking? Suspected of Committing Arson to Burn His Own Ailing Wife, Both Couple are in Critical Condition

As the physical, psychological burdens of taking care of his ailing, bedridden wife grew by the day, this man finally, CRACKED!  Off of the Front Page Sections, translated…

The man, Wang from Dali District in Taichung yesterday was suspected of pouring flammable materials then committing arson on her, and he’d locked himself into the room too, and started burning down the quilts, both of them were injured by the fire, and they were both in critical condition when they were both, rushed to the hospital.  Back then the eldest son was coming home, and heard the cries of his mother who had a stroke, rushed in, put out the fire, he sustained burns on his hand as well.  Because Wang’s wife had been bedridden for years on end, the police are investigating the case to see if the reason of Wang’s arson was due to the pressures of caretaking, and that he was in a foul mood then.

The neighbors pointed out, that the Wangs are an extended family, the couple (ages sixty-five and sixty-six), lived with their eldest son and daughter-in-law, their children, as well as their youngest son.  Both the sons are in construction as carpenters, during the time of the incident, only Wang and his wife were at home.  Wang’s wife became paralyzed from a stroke, she’d stayed on the first floor and was looked after by Wang, and, the pressures of caretaking long-term just, got to the man.

Yesterday morn, his eldest son got into an altercation with him on the matter of cleaning out the trash, and, could this be the last straw, or had the argument sparked the crumbling down from his taking care of his own wife long term, that’s caused Wang to commit arson?  And because both Wang and his wife were severely injured and hospitalized, and their son couldn’t know what had happened because he was out of the house, the police are still waiting for the man and his wife to recover to try to understand, what, had happened.

this can be stressful and straining to their lives! Photo from online

Based off of understanding, the eldest son returned home at around four in the afternoon, he’d heard his mother cried in pain, he saw through the peephole of the aluminum door that his father was on fire, he’d immediately gotten in, with a hose, and put the fires out on his mother, and called emergency.  He went to the second floor, found his father had locked his bedroom door from the inside, and that smoke was coming from his father’s room, he’d broken the door down, saw his father setting fire to the quilt, he’d immediately put out the blazes, then poured water on his father to save him.

By the time the firefighters arrived, they’d found that Wang had sustained burns on thirty-percent of his body, while Wang’s wife sustained eighty-percent third-degree burns on her body, both were conscious, they were rushed to the hospital immediately.

Wang’s eldest son told the rescuers, that he’d gone out to get his car fixed in the morning, and by the time he’d returned in the afternoon, he’d heard his mother crying, “tragedy already occurred!”, and, on why his father may have set the fires, the eldest told, that he wasn’t there, and couldn’t know what were the events leading to the point, but, before he went out in the morning, he did, have a verbal altercation with his own father.

The firefighters smelled gas there, and they discovered in the first-floor living room a plastic bottle with the gas that’s half-melted, and on the floors of the first floor dining area, and the second-floor master, they’d discovered lighters, and, the dining room table, as well as the quilt on the bed on the second floor, both had burn marks, and another stroller was burned too.  As for the point of origin, and who bought the gas, who started the fire, are still all, pending investigation.

And so, it’s, more than likely that it’s this primary caretaker who’d, set the fires, to TRY to kill his wife and himself, because he got too tired of looking after his bedridden wife, and the burdens grew stronger, and this elderly person was facing it all alone on his own, that would probably be what drove him to set the fires.
