There’s a huge increase of the cases of child abuse from January to June of this year, the Kaohsiung Changgang Hospital which took on over four hundred cases of child abuse cases per year stated, that there wasn’t a clear increase of the cases, but they do see the increase in the major, the more severe cases of injuries, from January to September this year, they’d already taken in and treated fourteen severely injured or deaths due to violence, or neglect, this is alarming.
The hospital took in a four-months-old infant girl who was taken in for falling into sleep for no reasons at all, the blood results showed positive for drugs. The father of the infant works in tourism, with the outbreak, causing the collapse of the market for international travels, he’d not made any extra money, and, he’d started taking the sleeping pills to help him sleep better, suspected of getting annoyed with his own young daughter’s crying that he’d mixed in some pills into her formula, causing the infant to fall into a comatose.
A father who’d set up the nightmarket stands to sell the items, had a hard time making ends meet during this period of outbreak, he’d taken the pressures of not making enough money to keep his family out on his elementary age child, and the neighbors reported him for domestic violence for his improperly disciplining his own young.
He’d told the social worker, that he’d not meant to hurt his own child, that he was succumb by the pressures of economics and life, and felt regrets toward his losing control emotionally.
The child neurologist of Kaohsiung Changgang Hospital, Hsu stated, that the medical journals from U.S., Germany, England, and Japan all had reports on the hikes of child abuse during outbreak. In England, a major children’s hospital received fifteen times the cases of child abuse in one single month during the heights of the outbreaks of MERS-CoV; and, in April of this year, Japan has a reported 1.3 times increase of cases of domestic violence compare to the same period last year.
Hsu believed, that because of how every family is different, it’s hard to state, if the cases are directly related to the outbreaks, but, the alarming numbers of these reports should NOT be ignored and overlooked that easily. She said, the outbreaks are more severe in Europe and U.S., and they’d closed the towns and cities, that Taiwan should take from the research results, as the outbreaks come again, it’ll help the children in lesser backgrounds through the storms.

The head of the pediatric department of the Kaohsiung’s Datong Hospital Chou also stated, that during the outbreak, parents are spending more time with their young, and there may be more frictions too, and the frictions may easily cause violence to break out, but, the economic pressures of the families are a major factor.
And, the medical studies in the U.S. showed, that there’s a higher chance of those who became unemployed during the outbreak abusing their own young than those who were originally unemployed, that counseling should be offered to those who became unemployed during this time, to prevent the children from becoming the punching bag of the parents.
And so, this is still, scapegoating AT its worst, because the adults are tried by the economic pressures, being out of work, during the outbreaks, they take it out on their own young, and because these parents originally didn’t have a high enough emotional control over their own actions, that’s why there’s this, huge HIKE in the cases of child abuse during the outbreak.
