Instilling the WRONG ideas into the grandson, that the house will be, inherited by him, that he can, disregard any and ALL the rules set forth by him by his parents, because the place they live in, wasn’t bought by the parents, but by grandma!!! Translated…
As Mei-Ying bought her home, her mother-in-law helped paid for the down payments, and thus, she’d become, a “major stockholder” of her house, not only was she able to have a set of keys, and come and gone as she pleased, and she’d, meddled in EVERYTHING too, whether it be how the furniture pieces were, arranged, or buying of the household appliances, she’d even hold the “veto” rights too, so long as she didn’t agree, Mei-Ying and her husband, even if they had their own thoughts, they’d not, dared, done as they wished to.
On top of that, Mei-Ying’s mother also, loved, meddling into the teaching of her children. Not only had she’d intervened as the couple disciplined their young, she’d often, filled her grandchild with incorrect thoughts like, “Grandma’s going to give this house to you, so, this is actually, your house already!”
Mei-Ying’s son in in the fourth grade, at the edge of his puberty years, one day, he’d had enough with his grandmother’s nagging, he’d told her, “Stop coming over all the time, it’s, so annoying!” and, as Mei-Ying’s mother-in-law heard, she got upset, stated to her grandson, “I helped your family buy this house, I get to come over, whenever I please!”
And Mei-Ying’s son rebutted, “But the mortgage payments are made by mom and dad!” her mother-in-law got furious, felt, that it was her who’d, “put in the words” to turn her own grandson against her, and so, she’d, gone to Mei-Ying to confront her.
Although Mei-Ying, who’s, been under strict watch of her mother-in-law, being mild-mannered, she’d, never said a single bad thing about her mother-in-law in front of her children, and she’d, told her mother-in-law what made her own son react as rashly.
Turned out, Mei-Ying had told her son, NOT to draw on the walls, the son didn’t listen, and he’d objected, “Grandma said she was leaving this house to me, so, I can draw whatever I want to on the walls here!”, immediately, Mei-Ying had, set her son straight, “the down payment of this house was made by grandma, but we’re the ones who are paying the installments of the mortgages now, so, this house doesn’t belong to any of us singly, it’s, owned by us all!”
As Mei-Ying told us this story, we can’t help, but “gloat”, and pressed her to tell us how her mother-in-law reacted? Did she have the three lines going down her face like the cartoon characters? Mei-Ying sighed, said, that she’d not felt glad one bit that she’d, “slapped her mother-in-law in the face”, but instead, she’d lost nights of sleep because of her son’s words.
Yeah! Her mother-in-law meddling into the matter of their residence was enough, and, yet, the negative effects the mother-in-law has, telling her son what she’d told him, may have, an even, worse effect!
And so, this, is how the elders can, spoil their grandchildren and children without knowing it, and this time, the mother-in-law was so self-righteous, and, the daughter-in-law didn’t even DARE setting the mother-in-law straight, and this matter affects the whole family, not just the upsets that occur between the generations, the values that the son carried needed to get set straight that’s for sure!
