The Loosening of Foreign Language Instructions in the Preschool Years, the Scholars Worried that Chinese Won’t be Emphasized Enough

Yeah, uh, you got the thought, but NONE of the measures to take to achieve this!  The beliefs of the president of this nation, off of the Front Page Sections, translated…

The president, Tsai called out that she is setting the goals of this country being dual-language by 2030, and there are now, the dual-language preschools increasing by the numbers, and the Department of Education also previewed the “Rules for Preschool Instructor Application”, loosening the limits placed on foreign language instructions in the preschools.  But the education department scholars stated, that learning English at ages two, or three, may get the children to neglect the importance of Chinese, that it will not be a good foundation for this country, and the families are different in economic levels, and this trend will cause the differences of skills level in English by the time children entered into the first grade, and they suggested, that there should be the separate guidelines for the dual-language education in middle and elementary schools.

Based off of current  “Preschool and Kindergarten Learning Application Guidelines”, the preschool should NOT have the whole or half day or courses in foreign language instructions, that dual-language instructions are to begin in the third grade levels.  The Department of Education stated, that in order to keep the outside realm from misunderstanding the purpose, the government switched the department of education changed the name of this rule, with the significant rule that “there should NOT be a separate course in English language instructions”.

The committee member of the Early Childhood Education Foundation, Yang stated, that the loosening of the law, is going to cause a lot of the privately owned and operated preschools to become all-English institutions, or to legalize the dual-language preschool programs operated by the cram schools.  Becoming overly “English”, the preschools may neglect the core of early childhood education, and the children may be misled to believe that Chinese isn’t important enough, and this is shaking the foundation on which this country is built up on.

here are the four primary theories in foreign language acquisition, found online

The Early Education Professor from Taidong University, Huang believes, that early childhood education should be focused on the life-skills, instead of the academics.

But, the early childhood educator, the head of the Taiwan Early Childhood Education Union, Hong said, that the private facilities shifting toward theme-related lessons, that the options of the Montessori, Waldorf and Flaubert methods can be selected freely by the parents.

More and more preschools are starting children in learning English, and this will widen the gaps of English skills when children enter into the first grade.

Because, we’re, drifting toward globalization, that’s why this plan is being discussed, but, they FAILED to realize, that the mother tongue is important, because the children NEED to know where they come from, their parents’ cultures, their origins, which is why a lot of the Asian parents in the U.S. still put their kids into Chinese schools on the weekends, because they don’t WANT their young to forget their “roots” and this new education legislation, does EXACTLY the OPPOSITE of just that, and, this is NOT a good idea, after all, this method can cause the children to be at a loss for words, because, they can’t even master their “mother tongues” yet, and you want them to take up a foreign language?  And, all the children of this next generation will become, M-U-T-E-S in the end!
