An Elderly Went for a Morning Swim in a Banned Creek, Drowned and Blocked Off the Waterflow

The WARNING sign is there for a REASON, and you’d, lost your life because you didn’t follow it!  Off of the Front Page Sections, translated…

There’s the BAN from Swimming Locally, the Locals Ran Five-Hundred Meters to Get Help, the Man Suspected of Having a Cardiovascular Problem Because of the Cold Weather

The seventy-three-year-old elderly man, Chiu yesterday morning went for a morning swim at Shapodang Creek, was found drowned at the dam, those who’d found him pulled him up quickly; but the location is far off, with bad cell reception, the members of the local community rode the bicycles, sped for five hundred meters away, and finally found a phone to call for help, and by the time the paramedics arrived, Chiu had stopped breathing, and after being rushed to the hospital, he was, pronounced dead.

The Shapodang Creek is located in the Shuiyuan Village of Hsiuling County, the name in Taroko meant “lots of rain”, one of the sources of the Meilung Creek.  There was the warning signs of “do not swim”, but because the place was beautiful, the water clean and clear, a lot of the visitors disregarded the warning, and it’s a frequent drowning spot; there were the incidents of a seventeen-year-old girl diving and injuring herself, the male college student drowning in a dive in the summertime, and this accident that’s happened, yesterday.

Based off of investigations, Chiu lives in Ji-An County, he regularly goes out for a swim in the early mornings, he’d gone swimming at Shapodang; at seven in the morn yesterday, as a group of swimmers went for their swim, they’d found Chiu afloat, not moving in the second dam block, not moving, one from the group quickly pulled him to shore, and another swimmer rode his bicycle for about five hundred meters away, to where there is cell reception, and called for help.

The Hualien Fire Department received a call at 7:27 in the morning, rushed over, and by the time the paramedics arrived, Chiu lost all of his vital signs, although the paramedics continued performing CPR, and rushed to the Tzu-Chih Hospital in Hualien in no more than half an hour, he was still pronounced dead.

The police examined Chiu’s body, and found that there were no external injuries, suspected that his death was caused by the differences of the temperature, causing cardiovascular diseases, they’d asked the district attorneys to examine.

The Fire Department stated, that there was the “Do Not Swim Here” sign posted, that it is a dangerous creek, that the visitors should avoid going into the water, especially diving, or go to the depths.  If someone is drowning, do remember, that onshore resuscitation is way better than going in, the equipment are better than without any devices, the team used in saving lives better than individuals going in, never try to save someone on your own, putting yourselves in harm’s way.

So, this is a DANGEROUS place, but because this MAN disregarded the warning signs, that, is why he’s now, DEAD, and, this is unfortunate, but, this man had basically, ASKED for it, because he’d disregarded the warning signs posted by the creek, and still took that swim, and now he’s, DEAD, and that’s what you get, for DISREGARDING the rules, they are there, for a REASON: for your OWN safety!!!
