The hazards that comes with the “territory” here!  Dangers of the law enforcement officers!  Off of the Front Page Sections, translated…

The Cousins, Liu Owed Rents and the Landlord Sued, They’d Lost the Case, But Still Squatted on the Property, Yesterday the Court Enforced Their Eviction with the Police, the Younger Brother Took a Sashimi Knife and Attacked Two Officers, Lee & Lai, They Were Both Taken to the Hospital, and Only Sustained Surface Injuries, and the Cousins were Forced into Hospitalization Because of Emotional Instability, the Police are Charging the Two on Assault and Obstruction of Public Affairs.

The courts investigated, Liu (age 49) and his older female cousin (age 54) started renting at a fifth floor building in a community in Taping District of Taichung last September, because they owed rents, and the landlord cut the power and the water off, they’d paid up the owed amount, and then, accumulated the unpaid rents again, in mid-February this year, the landlord stopped the contract for rent, and filed for the eviction suit from the courts, the courts in June found the landlord valid in reasoning.

But because the cousins, Lius still lived in the property, the district court mandated the visit by the social services, and they’d found that both had schizophrenia, at around two in the afternoon yesterday, the court’s officers, the bailiff, and clerk, accompanied by two male and female police officers from the Taiping Substation to get the property returned.

AS the court official and the police arrived, the landlord knocked first, the cousins refused to open up, the officials showed them their identification, the two opened up a small crack in the door, saw the police, then, got emotional, and slammed the door shut.

The officer asked the landlord to open the door with the key, the nearly six feet tall, strong built Liu had sashimi knives in his hands, swung them at the police.  The police used pepper spray, and went up to subdue him, Liu fought hard, and slashed the officer, Lee (age 27) on the thigh; the officers saw that it was hard to subdue him, and that Lee needed hospitalization, they’d all, backed out of the apartment.

As the officers retracted, the cousins locked the doors, and blocked the doorway with the furniture and whatever they had around the property.  More police came half an hour later, and the firefighters broke down the door, and the police tried to take them down a second time, and the cousins still fought really hard, the office, Lai (age 40) as he’d pinned the suspects down, got slashed on his right ankle, the officers were finally able to, subdue both, and forced them into the hospitals, and ended this “war of returning the properties”.

The police told, that although they were, fully armed with the sticks, the shields, and the pepper sprays, but Liu was too tall, too strong, and fought them off hard, which caused the officers to sustained the injuries when they’d tried to arrest them.

And so, this, is really awful, what happened to the officer, he was only doing his job, evicting these two squatters, and he was injured, and this still showed how there’s this lacking in enforced hospitalizations with these individuals with serious mental conditions.
