This is a HUGE problem, with the population AGING too fast, oh, and compounded with that reduction in BIRTH RATE, this is, what will keep on, happening, tragedy STRUCK, once, again, off of the Front Page Sections, translated…
The elderly man, Fang didn’t want to see his own bedridden wife, Chang suffer long-term, two nights ago, he’d gone to his wife’s long-term care center where she was living, suspected of force feeding acid to her, covering her nose and mouth with the sheets, and the nursing home staff member found him and stopped him, then, Fang poured the acid he had on those who’d gathered, then, took a gulp of it, he’d suffered severe burns in his mouth, died on the way to the hospital, the nursing home staff, Fang’s wife, along with the elderly woman staying in the bed adjacent to Fang’s wife all had acid on them, but, they’re not in imminent danger.
The Chiayi General Hospital director, Huang said, that the population is aging too quickly, just last year, there were, more than twenty cases of this sort of a “long-term care tragedy”, and there may be more incidents in the future to come, that the government should enforce the knowledge, educating the public on the matter, and make the resources that are currently available known to those who may be in need of it, so the families can have a break, to prevent this sort of tragedies from recurring.
The police investigated, the seventy-one-year-old elder, Fang had gone to the nursing home day and during the evening to visit his wife, at around 6:30 at night two evenings ago, he’d gone to the nursing home again, took along two bottles of acid in the cough syrup bottles, sat next to his wife, who’s intubated.

At around seven at night, the foreign caretaker, Pei found the elderly man, pouring something into his wife’s mouth, then, muffled her up with the sheets, she’d gone up to stop him and hollered for help. Then, the elder, Fang took the bottle of acid, poured it on Pei, causing her to suffer burns, and the elderly woman staying next to his wife’s bed also injured, then, Fang poured the acid down his own throat, then, he’d, put his head down on his wife’s bed, all four were rushed to the hospital.
The elderly man, Fang, due to how his digestive tract getting eroded by acid, suffered internal bleeding, early yesterday morning, he was pronounced dead, the cause of death was low blood volume causing shock, the D.A. suspected it to be a suicide attempt, but hadn’t found a note. Fang’s oral cavities were eroded by the strong acid, the face and back of the foreign caretaker, Fei suffered facial and back burns, the two were in the hospital for observation, the elderly woman who was close by who had acid on her didn’t have any serious injuries, is already discharged from the hospital.
The police found, that Fang the elderly man worked in testing the cars, and he’s still working at seventy-one, his friends all noted him as “Fang the elder”, two years ago, after discussions with his children, he’d sent his seriously ill wife into a long-term care facility close to their home, so he could visit her in the morning, and in the evenings, everybody knew that they were, very close, and those who knew them were all very, surprised that this happened.
Based off of understanding, before and after work every day, Fang would go to the home to visit his wife; Fang’s wife is not well, sent to the hospitals many times, Fang saw his wife go in and out of the hospital, and always complained, “my wife is getting thinner and thinner’, losing that quality of life, and he didn’t know how to handle it.
The family of a patient in Fang’s wife’s nursing home stated, that she’d see Fang go to his wife’s room to accompany her, his wife couldn’t speak, they’d not interacted at all, that he’d looked, very helpless, seeing how his wife is ailing by the day, that he must’ve been under a ton of stress and pain that no one else can, imagine.
And so, this, is what’s, currently happening, and it’s NOT the home’s, the hired help’s, the elderly man’s fault, because this, is the trend, with people living longer and longer and longer, and being the PRIMARY caretaker, this elderly man felt helpless at how his wife is ailing by the day, and there’s NOTHING he could do FOR her, and so, he’d decided, to put her out of her misery, because she’s bedridden, and, couldn’t do anything on her own, and there’s, just NO quality of life living like that.
