Taking that Stroll at the Marketplace

How this mother with a young child, de-stressed, using going to the local marketplaces to interact with those she encountered on the shopping trips, translated…

Last weekend, during my husband’s day off, he took our son to the marketplace to shop, he’d told me that it was a way, he gave back to me, an around-the-clock mom and housewife.  As he’d returned, he’d told me, “hey, everybody in the marketplace knows me, rather, they knew our child.”

Turned out, the aunty who owned a vegetable stand asked him, “So, your wife has the day off?,” the uncle who’d sold the pork also inquired, “why’s it your turn to come to the marketplace with your son?”, even the chicken stand that I’d rarely bought from greeted him, “your turn to shop at the marketplace today?”

In this day and age with the reduced birthrate, there’s, not that many people who’d, carried their young to the marketplaces, besides, I’d always used going to the markets to soothe my son’s tempers, I’d strolled there every single day.  We’d moved here, less than a month ago, and, all the stands knew me as the young mom with my son in front, a backpack on my back, even the cabdriver who’s waiting for business outside the market’s entranced asked me, “are you tired having to travel like this?”

No, really, I’m not.

And, when my child’s on my back, he’s, behaving himself especially well, and I’d, introduced him to the sights we come across at this time as well, from the colors of the trees, the flowers, to the various auditory stimuli from the markets, and from the passing cars too, and the various scents from the stands all around the marketplace, it’s a way, of bringing more visual, auditory, and olfactory stimuli to my young.

Staying at home, faced with the household chores, I also gained the opportunity to hold conversations with everybody I’d encountered, strolling around at the marketplace, are not just for the sake of coming outside, getting a breath of fresh air, it’s also, a relaxing, stroll.

And so, this, is one way you have, of de-stressing, because you’re a stay-at-home mom and a housewife, you’re dealing with the nitty-gritties of daily grind, cleaning the house, doing the dishes, cooking, etc., etc., etc., and it does you good, going out to stroll, to shop around your local markets with your young.
