Secrets My Father & I Shared

After dementia took over, how the daughter made this wedding anniversary memorable for her mother, on her father’s, behalf…translated…

Since my father was diagnosed with dementia, he’d started, forgetting things, including the wedding anniversary of him and mom.

Thankfully I’d heard mom told, that they were married on October 11th, and because the typhoon just passed, the cost of roses skyrocketed.  But, it was, a once-in-a-lifetime golden anniversary, and we must, have a, celebration for them, we can’t forget!  And, just so happened, I saw a plastic floral pen in the stationery shop by the entrance of our alley, with a red rose on one end, on the other end, the pen, the rose looked lifelike, and, I’d, immediately, bought one.

I’m guessing that mom will, love this practical and beautiful gift.

what she’d served, to her mother, on her father’s, behalf…something like this???  Photo from online

I’d told my dad, I’d prepared a rose pen, and the floral meaning of one single red rose was “you’re my one and only love”.

I’d gone to the supermarket, bought some red Jello, also, two heart-shaped bowls made with china, signifying two hearts beating as one, how romantic!

I’d not told dad, that I also prepared the Jello, and naturally, mom was clueless too, and, as I’d placed that rose pen into the small vase, as mom saw, she’d blurted out, “you’d wasted your money!”, but as I watched the two of them sat there on the tables, eating their, heart-shaped Jello together, my mother looked, very blissful.

Dad, don’t you tell mom, that all of this, was from me, this will be, our secret, you should NOT ever tell mom about it, and, if one day, mom has a question, you just need to, flash, that cutesy smile of yours at her.

And so, this daughter had, put all her heart into, making the wedding anniversary of her parents’ memorable and special, she’d planned out everything, and, gave the credit to her aging, demented father, for her mother to feel, that she is, cherished, because she is!
