There was an accidental drowning yesterday afternoon at the bridge front of Sandimen Bridge in Shuimen Village of Neipu County of Pingdong, the man, Sun took along his two daughters and his nephew, Yen to the local reservoirs to swim, the five young children started drowning one by one, the four young girls were rescued in time, but the eleven-year-old boy sank to the bottom, and by the time the rescuers pulled him back out, he’d, stopped breathing, and he was rushed to the hospitals, but he couldn’t be, saved. The boy just turned eleven years old yesterday, his birthday became the day that he’d died, the families were in distress.
The police investigated, the eleven-year-old boy and his families live in Kaohsiung, two days ago, he’d gone home with his two sisters ages nine and five back to the tribe to visit, they were staying at their aunt’s; yesterday the temperature rose to 35.4 degrees Celsius, the three children wanted to swim in the local pools, but because the pool was closed, the thirty-five-year-old uncle, Sun took the children to the enclosures of the river to swim.
At around 2:30 in the afternoon, the six went swimming, and Yen saw one of his younger cousins took an unsteady step, and started sinking down, he’d, swum over to save her, but, in a panic, the three other young girls started, drowning too, as Sun saw, he’d, rushed to save the girls one by one, but the boy, Yen wasn’t anywhere to be found.
By the time the firefighters came, and sent out four divers, the depth was about two meters, but because the water was with a low visibility, the rescuers felt around in the water to search; about ten minutes later, they’d felt the boy’s body at the bottom, by the time the child was pulled out to resuscitate, he’d lost signs of life, and after he was rushed to the E.R., he’d still, died. The four girls gained consciousness, but had pneumonia, from choking on the waters, they were kept in the hospital for observations.
The man, Sun followed the ambulance to the hospital, as he was told that the nephew had died, he’d started, crying hard, and blamed himself for not watching over him carefully enough, he’d told, that it was the boy’s birthday yesterday, “I wanted him to be happy, we had a party planned”, the grandmother of the boy started, wailing on sight.
The boy and his younger sister goes to a local elementary school in Xiaogang District in Kaohsiung, the school told, that the three children were active, happy native children, as the teachers heard about the drowning, they were all very sad, the principal had, rushed to Pingdong to see the family already.
The police said, the location where the children went swimming, is known for the accumulation of the sediments, that the water is not clear, and there’s, the uneven depths, it’s considered, a dangerous zone. The District Attorney’s Office will conduct an autopsy, and then decide whether or not Sun will be charged with negligence, and child protective laws and such.
And so, this, is the importance of water safety, because this group of children went swimming in a place where there’s no lifeguard, and, the adult to children ratio is not enough, that’s why, this boy had, died. Even though, this was, an accident, but the adult who took them swimming IS responsible, for the death of this, young boy, because he’d not made sure that it was safe.
