The kindness from, a complete stranger, that came, at your moment of need, and he’d, touched your life, translated…
On the second of the lunar New Year, my coworker and I went to Taidong to travel.
Back then, there’s no mobile network yet, this sudden travel plan we had, we didn’t have enough information, as soon as we found an available bed and breakfast, we were, off. We stayed in Taima Borough for an evening, then, we rode the trains to Taidong. Afterwards, we took the time, and, hiked up the Dulang Trails for half a day, then, headed to Guanshan Township.
Based off of an old and worn map, we passed through the water playground and the underpass, then, suddenly, a patch of yellow-colored bok choy field came into our eyes. There were, a ton of bicycle shops and we’d, decided to, rent two. There’s, the cycling path at the township, a total of twelve kilometers, we rode along, and took the shots, had a ton of fun, but, we’d not noted, how the sun had, set and the skies, slowly, turned, dark.
There’s no lamppost by the field, and for the final eight kilometers, we can only, push, push, push down hard on the bicycle pedals, and, that sense of leisure we had from before, completely, gone. What accompanied us, the frogs calling aloud, sounded like, they were, mocking the two of us, city slickers.

At the last kilometer marker, came a pickup from behind us. We’d, originally thought that the driver wanted to get ahead of us, and so, we’d, pedaled even faster; but, the pickup drove behind us slowly, and, used the headlights, to guide us back to our finishing line. The kindhearted driver didn’t say anything, just, waved goodbye to us, then left.
The accidentally getting into trouble during this trip, became, what stayed in-focus for me for this trip, as I’d, recalled how foolish and how driver I once was, that smirk came. I’m still very grateful, toward the angel who’d become the light in the darkness that helped guided us to safety, and maybe, he’s still, in the fields, to this very day, picking up the tourists who got blinded by the nights!
And so, this, is the encounter of the kindness of a stranger, he knew you were in need of some light, and, became that light that helped you back to safety, and, although so many years had passed since, there’s not a day that goes by, that you don’t feel, completely, grateful for the person, for being that light in the darkness, that helped guide you and your friend to safety.
