How his parents, his counselor, fought for the right of his attaining an education, and he’d, found something he’s, excellent in too! Off of the Front Page Sections, translated…
Huang, who’d graduated from Chiayi High School had been diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy since he was young, he only has the mobilities in his fingers now, his parents started applying for homeschooling for him since middle school, until last year, he’d, graduated from high school. In the guidance of his special eds instructor, Huang found his love in cricket, he entered on behalf of the city of Chiayi as a competitor to the National Sports Competition for the Handicapped, became a cricket player professionally.
Huang needed help in his daily living routines, feeding, bathing, putting his clothes on, but he’s, very cognitively, capable. His mother, Su told, that in his elementary years, she’d gone to school with him every day, in the middle school, the time spent sitting in class became longer, after the assessments, the schools recommended that he started, schooling at home, after all, “the child won’t give up on learning, and the parents must help provide the proper education to them.”
Su said, she wanted her son to learn with joy, and, scheduled the classes loosely, the instructor came to their home, and taught him the academic subjects, and at the same time, encouraged him to head outdoors for the learning sessions. There were a total of six hours of classes per week from his first to his second year of high school education, and, during his last year, the hours were to reduced to only three hours per week.
and here’s that young man, practicing his sports skills
The counselor of the Chiayi High School, Chien told, that at first when Huang was homeschool, he’d noted how Huang wasn’t excellent in the academic courses, and, after the occupational therapists in the special education schools reevaluated, he started training himself, to roll the balls on the floors, this not only helped with the student’s physical therapy needs, there’s, also the techniques, the skills of the games being played too, it’d helped Huang have a goal in learning.
Chien said, that if the hands aren’t, agile enough, he could use a track to get the ball rolling, with the help of the physical therapist, they have to work together in this, and so, the role of assisting went to Huang’s parents, and, the course had, helped the family become, even more cohesive. Other than the two classroom sessions of the games, he’d practiced the rolling of the ball on the weekends outside, practiced his skills, alongside other members of the handicapped community, Huang was also, a top competitor, representing the city of Chiayi in the national events.
And so, this is finding a way, to help a student with special needs, gain a special set of skills, because this young lad could NOT receive his education the normal way (sitting in class, taking notes, etc., etc., etc.), and the teachers and the parents, they’d, worked hand-in-hand with the policies, to help this young man learn a set of skills that helps him physically, and trains him mentally at the same time.
