As MERS-CoV Carried on, the Locals Avoided Heading Out and Stayed at Home to Avoid Catching the Virus, Some Had Bought the Gaming Machines to Kill Time, but, They’d Become, the Primary Targets of the Scammers’; the Anti-Scamming Hotline Set by the Criminal Investigations Unit Found, that the Switch from Nintendo and the Games Became, What the Scam Artists Used, in Three Months, There were, Already SEVENTY-ONE Members of the Public Who’d Bought Related Items and Got Scammed, the Police Warned the Residents to be Careful.
Switch is a popular item, the recently put out game, “Animals in the Forests” had gotten the crowd into it, but because of MERS-CoV, Nintendo couldn’t provide the normal amount of machines and games they originally were able to produce; on the 8th, Nintendo announced, that other than the preordered Switch outdoors, Switch and Switch Lite will stop shipments for a week, and, the orders from Taiwan, are estimated to arrive, at the end of this April.
The scam rings saw this as an opportunity, they’d claimed that they have the items online for sale, a lot of the citizens who are dodging the MERS-CoV staying at home were, fooled; a 30-year-old man bought the forest animal games from a discussion board, with the exercise equipment, they’d agreed on the cost of close to $10,000N.T.s, and, set up the delivery methods of having the game get picked up at a super convenience shop, the man received the receipt from the scam artist ring member, for the deliveries via LINE, and he’d, wired the money, but never received the game, he’d texted the man back, there wasn’t any replies, the buyer was also, blocked by the sender on the LINE accounts, that was when this thirty-year-old man realized he’d been, SCAMMED.
It’s estimated, that since March to date, there were, seventy-one members of the public who’d bought the Switch machines and the games online that were, scammed, and of these, there were, fifty-six cases on FB, it’s the highest, and, ten cases via the discussion boards.
The criminal investigations unit told, that the more prevalent cases of online scams are in cell phones, the gaming machines, and the masks, especially since January, they unit had received a total of over three hundred reported cases on the masks, and, the victims are the younger generations, of under forty years of age.
The younger population are familiar with online shopping, and are very fluent in using the social networking platforms, which turned them into, easy targets, the officers said, it’s because of how the desires to buy had, taken over the rationalities, and suggested that the younger generations to get more educated on the risks of ordering things from online sellers, especially off of FB, along with other social networking forums, which took up over seventy-percent of these cases, that the social networking platforms, should NOT be used, to buy the items at all.
And so, this, is still, simple economics, supply and demand, or in this case, opportunity AND scam, because the younger generations are very fluent in using the internet, we do everything online, pay the bills, buy whatever the HECK it is we need (we can even order our groceries online now!!!), and so, that’s why, this particular group became, easy targets, besides, this is during the time where, there are, risks of, exposure EVERYWHERE, and, most of us are, staying at home, and, BORED out of our bones, and, we need something to do, and so, that’s why, these gaming machines are flying off the shelves, and, the scam artists saw an opportunity, and, started working. It’s still the most basic of the principles of economics: supply AND demand at work here!!!
