Life, the Obstacle Course

No Meds

All this elderly woman was in need of, was someone, to hear her out, translated…

It’d been, several ears, that my grandmother had, fumbled through her medicine bags after each and every meal, for her “treats”, she’d gone to the physicians all around town, but, staying away from the pains, the illnesses, became, a wish that never came true, don’t know if it’s how she’d been in too much pain from her physical conditions or what, or that the illnesses had, made their ways into her lungs and heart too?

Her loss of health, isn’t limited to what’s happening every day, it’d, also included one trip with the whole family, that she’d, fallen ill on, there was, that hard, painful conversation she’d carried on with the family, where the resentment, fermented, inside of her, she’d, locked herself in, kept everybody out, and started, only conversing with her self.

Don’t know when grandmother’s conditions became, psychological, but, that state of mind where she no longer controlled her body, it’s, not to be, overlooked easily. During that time, I can only imagine how much pain grandma must be in, that nobody, could ever, understand, and, with no place to dispose of her unwanted negative emotions, she’d, stopped enjoying talking with her neighbors, and, she seemed to, have lost that connection with the, outside world. We’d, gone to the temples, sought out the professional medical experts, tried finding all the famous doctors for her conditions, and yet, my grandmother, who’d now been, closed off, still accepted the remedies those doctors had, prescribed to her, and, even, for two, to three months at a time, she’d, dumped her old favorites, her former prescribed meds, and, gone with her newer meds.

Luckily, this time, it’d, helped, fixed my grandmother’s conditions, with NO medications! This time, grandma had, put away her own “professional opinions”, and, gone with what the doctor had, prescribed, and, just as she’d taken a few rounds of the meds, she’d started, commending her doctor for finding the right treatments for her conditions, and resolved the symptoms she had troubles with from before. But I’m thinking, that the most amazing medication, was that chicken soup for the soul her physician offered to her.

The physician, clearly, was an expert on elderly psychology, willing to listen to grandmother’s age-old complaints, and, gave her the reminder, “there are those handfuls on the streets who are on more meds than you”, the doctor also, knocked open that closed up heart of hers, to make her believe, that the doctors can, change something for her, and it’d, solidified her belief, that she’s, to stick to him for treatment for good this time.

Because the symptoms are now, treated, my grandmother’s state of mind became more optimistic, she’d often, gone to the neighbors to chat with them now, and no longer, rejected the outings with the whole family, she’d, reduced her complaints, and, became more observant of her surrounding environment, her mind, her mood, her health, improved as well, which showed, how a dose of listening, works, way better than the prescribed medications.

try more of, this…

This elderly started showing the symptoms, because she felt that nobody was paying enough attention to her, or taking her seriously, it wasn’t until the physician gave her undivided attention when she went to see her/him, did she feel, that she’s, being taken, serious, and once her psychological need of being listened to got fulfilled, everything else physical, became, resolved as well. This still just showed, how the elderly need, are not the prescribed meds, but someone, to listen to them when they talked.
