The Dutch’s Style of Education: Child, You Take it Slow

Getting the kids all involved, in helping to clean up after the toys they’d, played in, the man taught the kids in an alternative way, and this had, occurred, outside the classroom settings, translated…

My son’s class had a barbeque, the parents put up the money, rented an air-castle, the kids were having a grand time.  After the gathering, the owner of the inflated castle came to collect it, the children were, not yet ready to leave yet, stood around, watched it deflate.

The owner first, went to turn off the motor that pumped the air in, the castle started, growing limp, at this time, the owner told the kids who’d gathered around it, “You all get on top of it, and step on it”.  The kids were, so ecstatic, started leaping and screaming, then, the owner directed the kids to stand to the sides, to fold the deflated castle from the sides, to squeeze out all the extra air, he’d, done it to show them, then, had the kids stand in line, to step on the castle.  As the castle became, completely, flattened out, then, he’d, started, rolling it up from one side, and all of his, little helpers, put up all their energies, pushed that deflated castle toward the center, finally, they’d, put that belt around it to make it set, then, rolled it onto the small trolley.

Finally, it’s, done, the owner high-fived each and every one of his young helpers, thanked them for helping.  A kid ran to his mom, told her, “The castle melted down!”, watching closely by, I too, was, melted away.  I’m in awe at the owner, he’d, turned the clean up job into something that’s, fun, inviting the children, to participate in helping him out.

From a business angle, the owner could, surely, rolled the castle up himself, so he can, be done with work, but he’d, chosen, to take his time with the children helping him, what’s fun was, I wasn’t, the only one who was in awe, a mom from Spain who was close by also told me, if it were in her own country, the owner would, wave the kids away, to not allow them to get in his way, in picking the item up.

It’s said, that the Netherlands, are children’s heavens, for me, this was, all in, the details.

And so, they have, a different way of education in the Netherlands, like how this business owner had done, he could’ve, just, deflated the air-castle, then, rolled the thing up, loaded up onto his own truck, and driven away with it, but he didn’t, he’d, had the children who were playing from before, all chipping in, participating, in the process, of picking up, and this will teach these young children, to pick up after themselves more, this is, totally, unlike in the eastern nations where the parents just, rushed the kids away, so they can, clean up quicker.
