Opinions, on the current education reform, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
The education reform in Taiwan, had been under everybody’s attention, especially the parents, they’d held higher expectations of the “education in schools” for their young.
Education to a person, other than in school, in the families, in the world (the enterprises, the units), are equally, important. Although, everybody spends a great deal of time discussing the education happening in school, but, it’d, only, makes up about a-third of all of a person’s learning processes, but, what you learned in work after school, is, much more, important than what’s, learned in the schools.
And, the education in the families, has this, set influence in the individual’s life, even after the person grows up, continued, to influence the person for the rest of her/his life. So, I believe, that none of these three, we can, do away with.
Especially, the education in the world, it’s, KEY to a person’s growth, as we leave the schools, and enter into the workforce, we’d started, “learning by doing”, there are, thirty, to forty years’ time we will be, accumulating the experience from work, learning, and this stage of life, is also, the most mature of the individual, and, what we learn, is what we’re, using daily, the key here, is, to fulfill the demands of work.
For the education in Taiwan in the future, I hoped, that the parents will set up a better example, not leaving education solely to the schools or the government, after all, every family background is, not the same, and, we’d needed the parents, to play the vital roles, to make up for the lacking in school, to understand more, and support the education at school, instead of, just making the demands on education toward the school systems.
And, as the individual starts working, s/he need to, create value int eh organizations, and, the organizations need to provide a stage, for the workers, to utilize their skills, and provide an environment in which the workers can grow, can mature in.
So, on education, we not only need to teach, we also, need to, raise children too, that is why, education is, everywhere, all the way, from the family units, to the schools, then, out into the real world, we’re, learning as we grow up and old, and at the same time, we’re, training the workers on the stage of learning.
Like how when ACER started, we’d set it up using the beliefs of Mencius, hoping, to provide a stage for the workers, to shine through using their, separate skills, at the same time, helping everybody grow in the environment, and hoped, that everybody can eventually, somehow, change the world that we’re, living in, to help train the workers for the future.
Training the workers, it’s not just delegated to the schools, but the families, the organizations, all need to, shoulder this, responsibility as well; the parents, and the organizations must reach this consensus, and, the organizations shouldn’t just, hire the workers, and not train more workers.
On the issue of education reform, other than thinking of improving the education in the schools, the parents and organizations must first gain the understanding, then, we’ll be able to, solve the problem that we’re, currently facing in education right now, and, we must, also, alter the beliefs of education with the progressions of time, to fit the needs of the futures.
And, the parents should NOT expect too much from the schools, to cause the instructors hardships; most of the instructors are, working hard, we should, give them more encouragements, and toward those who are not great teachers, who are, improper, we should, also, oust them.
I suggest, that the parents should work alongside the system of education set up in the schools, instead of just demanding the schools, because, by making these demands, there’s, NO way the schools can, possibly, satisfy all the parents’ requirements, instead the parents should, change themselves, to correspond to the school systems, that way, time wouldn’t, get wasted, and, it can, help us, reach the goals of education better.
And so, this, is from a C.E.O. of a major computer technology company, and, he’s right, on how education should, START at home, and how the parents should NOT just, keep on making demands to the schools, to train the children better, that the parents should start education at home too!
