An accidental fire, that took both their lives, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
At a steel-roof shack on Mingde Road in Beitou yesterday early morning, there was a fire, causing the two sisters, Liu to die, as they were stuck in the fire, they’d called it in, kept exclaiming, “It’s so dark, so much smoke!”, but, before they were able to tell the fire station their precise location, the signal was, lost. After the fire was put out, when the two sisters were discovered, they showed, no signs of life, as they were lifted to the hospital, and after emergency resuscitation, they still, didn’t make it.
Based off of understanding, the deceased, 32-year-old younger sister Liu works in a famous hotel in Pingdong/Henchun with her husband, she was up north for business, she’d, stayed with her 36-year-old older sister’s home. Their father is in business in China, the two sisters became trapped by the fire early in the morn, in their bedrooms.
The preliminary investigations showed, that the starting point of the fire was at the back of the steel roof resident of the second floor. At around four in the morn yesterday, the two sisters were awakened by the thick smoke in the bedrooms, they saw nothing but black, and called the police, the police turned them over to the fire department, then, the fire department operating center called them back. In the less-than-three-minute call, the operator heard the sisters in a panic, “it’s dark, with thick smoke everywhere”, before the firefighters were able to pinpoint their location, and teach them how to get out, the phone went dead, and, the fire department couldn’t get back in touch with them.
The Fire Department of Taipei sent out the trucks and the firefighters, and, as they arrived on site, they saw smoke, and fire, coming out of the second-floor windows, the fire was raging out of control.
The fire department told, that they managed to get seven people away, saved nine from the complex, the firefighters couldn’t get into the sisters’ bedroom from the second floor window, they can only break a hole on the walls of the steel shack, then entered onto the premises to search, but the fire had gone on long, it was heating up, until past seven, they’d found the sister who were trapped, inside the second bedroom.
Based off of understanding, the father of the deceased and the owner of the property were good friends, the sisters had only moved in eight months ago.
Last night at around six, Liu’s father and the younger sister’s husband came from China and Pingdong, they were heartbroken, as they identified their bodies, the coroners are going to be conducting an autopsy today.
Because of what the place was made up of, steel, which conducts heat too fast, and there’s, no flow of exit the sisters can get to, that was why this accident happened, and it could’ve been, easily avoided, had the family set up a working escape route, practiced the drills, but, this fire started unexpected, there’s NO way that they can prepare themselves for it, that is why, they couldn’t, get out.
