The Poverty-Stricken Woman Didn’t Have the Money to Bury Her Son, the Keelung District Attorney’s Office & a Charitable Foundation Helped Her Out

The man, Lee was found DEAD in his own apartment this May, the D.A. and police found there to be no external force that’s, caused his death, his mother came up to Keelung to identify her son from Kaohsiung, then told the district attorneys, “I don’t have the money to bury him,” the district attorneys heard, and, with the help from the city government of Kaohsiung, they’d, referred her to the Final Act of Kindness Foundation to help with the final affairs, Lee’s mother said, “My son can finally, rest in peace, thanks to the district attorneys’ and the foundation’s, kindness.”

The police followed the leads, and tracked down Lee’s birthmother who was close to seventy years of age, the officers showed her a photo, and because the body was swollen, it was hard for her to make the positive identification, but, their hearts were connected, and the woman broke down, after the police, the district attorneys took the DNA, and compared, and positively identified them as mother and son, as Lee’s mother got her statement, and signed, she’d told the D.A. that she didn’t have enough money to bury her own son.

The district attorney of Keelung, after hearing, felt heartbroken for her, and, wrote a message to the Kaohsiung city’s Social Services Department, and, they’d, referred her to the Kindness Foundation that’s offered the free funeral planning services for those who couldn’t afford it locally, the foundation immediately contacted Lee’s mother, and told her that they will help her sort through everything, that she didn’t need to pay for it in any form.

The C.E.O. of the foundation, Kou stated that Lee’s mother rode the train on the 2^nd to Keelung, the two volunteers from the foundation drove her to the Keelung D.A.’s office, and after she was handed the DNA confirmations, and the death certificate, they’d, rushed her to the morgue to get her son’s body, but because Lee’s registry wasn’t in Keelung, he was moved to the second funeral parlor in Taipei, yesterday they went with her to offer their final respects, tomorrow there will be a funeral held, and after he gets cremated, the volunteers had raised the funds, for his ashes to be placed in the Joy-Blessing Tower in Hsintien.

The C.E.O., Wu pointed out, that Lee told them, that she’d worked as a waitress, and a janitor from before to raise her son up, that although he only had a middle school education, he was very kind and fitting as a son, other than working the temp jobs, he’d also, driven a cab, and asked her to come up north so he could look after her, but she knew that he had a hard time making enough money, she’d not wanted to become a burden to her son, and so, she’d, turned him down repeatedly, and, she couldn’t imagine, that they’re now, separated, by, life and death.

And so, thanks to the kindness of the D.A.’s office and the foundation, this woman got to bury her own son, and this is another case of how kindness, although, barely, noticeable, exists in this world, and we’re, in need of more of these instances, because this world is getting worse, and, these are the stories that keep us going, offering us more hope in life.
