Helplessness, of a father, watching his young children get swallowed by the fires, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

At a Steel Shack Home in Chiayi, there Was a Fire at Around Eight in the Morning, the Ten, the Six-Year-Old Young Girls, Weng, Were Still Asleep, Didn’t Make It Out, Faced with the Children Who’d Died on Their Bed on the Second Floor, the Parents Broke Down, Screamed, “How Can This Be?”.  The Point of Ignition was at the Shrine of the Second-Story Home, the Cause is Still Pending Investigation.

As the mayor rushed to the scene, she’d started crying to, she wanted to console with the parents, but, couldn’t find the words that’ll make them feel better, in the interviews, she couldn’t keep her stature; she said, that the temporary iron shacks in the alleys needed to be safe, that the locals needed to be educated on fire safety, and the local government officials need to offer their hand in setting up the environment safely as well.

At around eight in the morning, the Chiayi Fire Department received the call, they’d arrived in four minutes, but the building was made of wood, and, the second floor was burning down, the locals nearby kept screaming, “Someone’s still inside!”

The firefighters took about fifteen minutes to contain the fire, they’d gone up to the second floors to search, and, as they’d opened up the bedroom door next to the shrine, they found two young girls, lying in bed, already dead, with no signs of trying to escape out; there weren’t large masses of burns on the children, the D.A. believed that they died from smoke inhalation, but because the younger child was only six, and this was an “accident”, an autopsy will be conducted.

The iron shack was left by the uncle of the mother of the young children, the family was registered as a low-income household, the two children live with their parents, and aunt, they’d lived there for over a decade; because Weng was hearing impaired, he was immobilized from a car wreck on one of his delivery drives, he’d stayed at home to rest, still waiting on the workers compensation, the family of four is reliant on the mother’s work at the delivery services.

“Had I known, I would’ve never left this morn,” the mother said, that yesterday, the company switched her shift, that was why she’d, gone to work, she’d left when her girls were still asleep, and, as she was half an hour out, the fire happened.  When the fire occurred, Weng, the father was on the first floor, but the smoke was too thick, and he was immobilized, he couldn’t climb up the stairs to save his own children; he’d held his wife tightly, and fell silent, until his wife told him, “it’s okay, you can cry!”, then, he’d, started, wailing.

The Fire Department told, that the location was an old-styled building made from primarily wood, but to get the place sturdier, iron roofs and iron windows were, added in, causing the smoke to accumulate inside, and the house heated up in a very short time, too quickly; there’s a high mortality rate in the fires of these iron shacks, people should save at least TWO exits and, free the lanai of materials, and there needed to be fire alarms installed in these sorts of homes too.

And so, these young children are dead, because of the unsafe environment they live in, because this family is a low-income house, therefore, they couldn’t, afford a safer environment to live, and, the children were burned to death in this tragic fire.
