The Care Home that’s responsible for taking in the migrant workers who had nowhere else they can go, along with the children of migrant workers, has five locations, but the city councilman, Wang found, that there’d been an increase in number of children staying in the Care Home, and because of bad living conditions, there were, five infants who’d died in the past two years. The mayor, Ke recently, after being told of the results of the visits of the government officials, he’d felt “ashamed” of not paying the home a visit, that he will schedule a visit there himself soon.

There are only, FIVE locations, all located in Wenshan District, and, the total area of all five locations combined is no more than 1,322 square meters, with over a hundred young children there. The Care Home is a local shelter for women and children, not a part of the city’s children and youth placement facilities, in the past, the Social Services had sent workers to visit, to assist the home with the resources it’d needed, offered the management help for the volunteers, to teach the parenting techniques.
But, Wang said, that as the Social Services sent its works to visit the home back in February 13th, 2015, they’d noted the problem of overcrowding, with not enough space, and they’d, set up meetings to discuss the matter, and, set up population control of fifteen adults, twenty-four children max, but, since February of 2015, the social service didn’t receive a list, and can only, make their estimates when the workers visited.
Afterwards, in December of 2016, when the officials visited, the population of children increased to fifty-three, the next year, to one hundred twenty-two. Wang said, the estimates, were only of the children, and, they hadn’t begun, calculating the total number of foreign mothers yet, and, although the Care Home isn’t a part of the social services programs of the city of Taipei, and can solve their own problems, but, the home was, negligent, in offering the cares the women and children required.
Wang pointed out, that between 2016 and 2018, there were, five infant and children who’d, died there, and, their deaths are all related to the viral infections of the intestinal tract, the doctor suspected it had to do with the sanitations in the environment, the lack of ventilation, causing the infections. He’d asked the Mayor, Ke, how he’d, felt, about the loss of these, five lives?
In the past, the Social Services discussed the matter, and believed that they’d, needed to, keep on, supporting the Care Home, and, even thought of changing the operations of the home into a nursing center, toward this, the mayor, Ke stated that he didn’t, make a visit there yet since he became elected, and will head over to the home, to see what was happening, and think of ways to resolve the problems.
And so, this would be, a BIG C-R-A-C-K, in the system, isn’t it? This place was supposed to be a home, a place, where children without the proper parents can grow up safe and sound, and instead, due to the lacking in resources, it’d, become, this GRAVEYARD for young children, and this still just showed, how the government isn’t, doing enough, to improve the welfare of children placed in government’s custody!
