The tragedies brought on by the lacking of the long-term care systems here, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

The seventy-four-year-old elderly woman, Chen was suspected of being overwhelmed with the burdens of caring for her long-time ill husband, she’d used a hammer, bashed his head thirteen times and killed him, she’d, immediately, turned herself in to the police, and was charged with murder.  The Shihlin District Court was in session yesterday, Chen was accompanied by her family members, she’d become, very thin, only weight a little over thirty kilograms.

The judge asked Chen how long she had been caring for her husband, she’d answered lightly, “I don’t know”, and, toward the inquiries regarding what she’d done, she’d answered with mostly, “I forgot”, and the court was finished with the trial within ten minutes of opening, the judge transferred the case to another court.  Chen’s attorney said, that after she’d, murdered her husband, she was deeply impacted, “she couldn’t eat”, and because she refused to talk with the law enforcement on what happened, her attorney is filing for a psych evaluation.

Chen and her husband, Wu had been married over forty-five years, they had a son and a daughter together, Wu had heart condition, and diabetes, and he’d needed to get dialysis regularly too, Chen took care of his living for over thirty years.

On October 17th of last year, Chen was suspected of being too overwhelmed with the pressures from taking care of her husband, she’d picked up the hammer in the toolbox in the living room, and BASHED her husband who was napping thirteen times until he stopped breathing; immediately afterwards, Wu turned herself in, “I kill my husband, I can’t take care of him any longer.”

Chen’s children and her sister showed up in court yesterday, they were all crying; after the hearing, Chen got up to leave; the attorney assigned to her, Chou said, that after she’d murdered her husband, she’d felt remorseful, and had stopped eating and drinking, and he saw her yesterday, and was thinner than he’d remembered her to be, he thought she was only, a little over thirty kilograms right now.

And so, another tragedy, from having too great a burden of caretaking, and this will happen in more prevalence now, because we are, living longer and longer, and longer, and, with our coming of age, our systems will, fail quicker, and quicker, and, the burdens of caretaking, of living with someone who needed long-term care is simply, too great to handle, and that, is precisely W-H-Y this tragedy had, happened…
