When the Purpose of Education is Solely in Passing the Entrance Exams, Learning Becomes a Waste of Time & Energy

This, is currently WHAT, is happening, the education here, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

“From cradle to cradle: the Design Proposal for Green Economy”, the book is talking about what we all knew, but had been, ignoring for too long, “a good design is like nature, there’s, nothing being, wasted.”  And now, this point became, the guiding post in the industry, there were, a lot of already designed products that were being, redesigned, to fit to our ways of life, further affecting our day to day living.

Recently, I’d heard several of those who worked in my same industry complained of how “messy the application process for entering into colleges and universities became”, because there’s NOT enough levels and ranks of scoring, there are too many students who’d, made the exact same grades, plus the newest rule only took in the grades of just four subjects, which caused the high-end technology majors not to stand out until the second rounds; unlike how in the past, if you did well on your college entrances, you immediately get that acceptance letter from N.T.U. medical school, and this had, caused great impact in the education industry with the primary focus of getting the students into the universities.

The college entrance, the sectional exams aimed at telling the basic levels of skills the students had, acquired, but, the basic levels of skills isn’t equivalent to what you can master, and, in order to keep that competitive edge with the rest of the world, you must have this curiosity that drives you to keep on learning new things, a passions, the courage to take chances, the patience, as well as a love and enthusiasm for your hometowns, and none of these, can be, measured by a letter or a numbered grade, and yet, we’re, trying to, quantify these skills.

A good education must learn from nature, there’s NO such thing as wastes, and yet, as our high school students who’d worked hard in their three whole years, to study, to make good grades in their college entrance exams, many still got admitted into majors that they’re not even, the least interested in, and, is it worth it, for the students, to accumulate all of these, “unusable”, useless knowledge?

The basic skills is NOT an IQ test, if in the universities, you’re only, studying and competing with one another on the major subjects of studies, wouldn’t that be, a total waste of your, college years?  For three years, the students had, repeatedly, practiced taking the exact SAME test, naturally, there would be, those who scored, at the same level of grades, which encourages the schools, to having the students make the good grades in their college entrance their, primary goals; the discoveries, the getting to know oneself, , the opening one’s eyes to brand new experiences, all of these, more important values, became secondary to the test-taking.

For the sake of that entrance exam, five days a week, over eight hours a day, the students get, STUCK inside those classrooms, that, is the real problem.  We wanted the high schools to teach the students EVERYTHING, and yet, we only, zoom in on the entrance exams’ grades, while the other courses became, a sort of a stress-relief, a diversion, something you can, relax with, that, would be, a WASTE of time!  Wasting the mind away, that, is considered, that MOST wasteful thing.

Other than the enforcement of the new education curricula, we must, redesign the way the students pass from primary to secondary, to higher education, there are, too many course that are, “nonreusable”, and after the exams, the classrooms turned into movie theatres, the cell phone gaming room, as well as the gambling rings for card games, not to mention, the textbooks, the practice exams that were, thrown out after the exams were over that are, piling up high, it’s a waste of time, as well, as a waste of resources, many of the mock exams, the study guides, weren’t even used at all, can our education be more like the circulation of economy too, not wasting our time, or our energies?

Because the schools’ way of educating the students are test-oriented, that is why this is happening, and there ARE, more important things than passing the exams, making the good grades in life, and yet, that, is what’s happening in education currently, too many standardized exams, with the students, NOT learning enough VIABLE life skills!
