Getting creative, in her teaching techniques, and, her methods, worked, it got the students involved in reading more, translated…
I’m a teacher of middle school earth science by the seaside for twenty-six years. Because there weren’t many classes, other than earth science, I was, assigned to classes which aren’t, my areas of study, and, if I am a homeroom instructor too, I’d, spent over twelve hours, working.
When I feel beat, I’d, watched the soap, to temporarily, displace myself. Once, I’d watched, “Younger Sister” which was written by Hsu, and, I became, interested in the book that the character was reading, and that was when I met the writer, Lee. Ever since, it’d, opened up an alternative way of reading books for me—I’d gone into searching for the books, related to the soaps I was, watching. This method, was good, in helping the middle school students, to take up the habits of reading, gives them a bigger motivation for reading the books.

The children living in the distant seashores, lacked awareness of how to hone up on their competitiveness, they’d spent more time on the online games, and chasing the soap operas than on reading the books. Using the sensible claims of “reading can open up your mind”, wasn’t enough, to take their attention from the hi-def glares of the soaps! Once, I’d accidentally found out that more than two-thirds of my class had watched the Korean soap of “You, from the Stars”, I’d, borrowed the boxset of “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane”, and, as I’d, reviewed over the male T.V. character’s reading the words, I’d, inserted the book in, and, I was, successful, in getting over thirty children to, quietly, immersing themselves into the world of books.
Since then, I’d used the images to help me teach reading, and it’d become, a good technique. For instance, their elementary school teacher showed them the movie of “The Giver”, and, we’d, read “The Giver” as a class, and, discussed it deeper, then, add in our own inputs, and, then, finished reading Lois Lowry’s four volume series. During those days, the kids no longer only just, engaged in discussions of the T.V. programming, or the exams, they’d, competed on how fast they’d read, and, started, being mysterious about the developments in the books later, it was, something that’s, quite interesting to see.
Many of Jimmy Liao’s work had been, made into feature films, some of the children saw “Starry Nights”, and some had seen “Going Left, Turning Right”, and, we’d, read all the volumes of Jimmy Liao’s work inside the school libraries, and, used a frame of a book, to help us to start on a creative project, and, had the students, use their imaginations, in finishing up the sentence, “Teacher, you will never know………” And, what the students came up with, was, very imaginative, and very creative too!
Because of my teaching career, I am used to reading; and because I’d, accompanied the children as they read, I’d, loved my job as a school instructor even more. And, this, was the best feedback I can ever have of, “no matter how busy you get, you should still, pick up a book and read it”.
And so, this instructor was able to get creative, in devising up a lesson plan, based off of her students’ drawn to visual inputs, and it’d, gotten the students involved in reading, and this just showed, that you would need, a whole lot of creativity, in coming up with the interesting lesson plans, to get your students to get into doing something that’ll, become useful to them in life.
