As the advancements of technology developed quicker than ever, the harassments online as well as cyberbullying became a vital problem, based off of the 2014 research results on cyberbullying, cyberbullying affects the victims’ daily lives as well as their psychological/emotional wellbeing.  This problem happens for both males and females, but, based off of statistics, women are more easily victimized as targets of cyberbullying, especially in the age group of eighteen to twenty-four.

This is caused directly, by the patriarchy belief of objectifying women.  Like in the recent news reports, a certain female police officer had her photo posted alongside with two segments of sex tape footages by someone unknown onto Facebook, and, the individual who’d, posted the video signaled, that the female officer WAS the woman in the sex tapes, and, the video went viral online, and it’d, caused the female officer emotional/psychological distresses.

These sorts of private footages, whether they’re true or false, the individual who’d streamed it or posted it would usually, mention the victims’ names, schools, and workplace, along with other ways of identifying them, then, with the online community’s help, everything goes viral, anonymously, and we can imagine how it would, hurt those who were, involved in these postings, how it can cause emotional distress, how it can cause that break in the victims’ interpersonal relations, as well as criticisms from the outside world, to the point that it would, affect their work or school performances, and even IF the files were unintentional in causing these effects, it’d already, affected the victims’ work as well as life too.

These behaviors of maliciously, passng out those private photos, along with having these things go viral, became, the trend in how violence occur in this technology era, toward this, whether it be the society, or the culture, we should all take a zero tolerance attitude toward, and quickly, pass laws to prevent these things from keep on happening.

What made these cyberbullying spread too quick, was the cyber misogyny, through the broadcasting, communications, the problems of gender inequality became more and more serious.  And, those private footages not only invaded the privacies of the individuals who were involved, but, more often than not, the women were the ones being burned at the stakes, which meant, that we still carried the sexist beliefs of how men should, dominate women: that women should hold true to their chastities, while men can whore around all they wanted to.  To this point, any woman who had been, under the expectations of the patriarchy, became nothing more than an object in the males’ views, and who would CARE for the woman’s rights of her own body?

And, all of those hidden, as anonymous in the online community, who’d reposted, restreamed these videos, these articles, who’d, kept watching, downloading the footages, not only do they NOT have that empathy toward the victims, but they’d, blamed the victims.  And, this trend had, increased the schema of how women are hated in these crimes, causing an even unfriendlier environment, causing the victims to blame themselves even more, become withdrawn, and silenced too.

The women in Taiwan had been taught, to keep everything shut in, and, after this particular incident, the female officer refused to stay silent any longer, she’d, gathered all the evidences herself actively, and pressed charges, her actions made us all very proud.  Her actions weren’t just for her self, but a symbol of standing up against the masses, other than warning the bullies, it’d given an alternative action that those who were cyberbullied can take!  I’m sure, this is, only, a starting point, that there would be, more victims who stepped up, and step out in the future.

So, this female officer is a good example, of how those who are victimized should act, but, it takes a lot of courage to stand up for oneself, because the world isn’t fair one bit, and sometimes, when we speak the truth that nobody wants to admit or hear, we get BURNED at the stakes, and this female officer, stood up, and she became, an example for all women who are being or who had been, and those who will be (and there will always BE!!!) victimized, by the beliefs of patriarchy!
