An Elderly Woman Was Trapped in an Elevator, She’d Set a Fire as a Way of Calling for Help, She’d Ended Up, Burned to Death

An eighty-seven-year-old elderly woman, Lee was trapped inside an elevator last December, because she’d called for help for thirty minutes and nobody came to her rescue, she’d, lit up the wrappings of the construction to set off the fire alarms; but, as she was finally pulled from the elevator, her body was severely burned, the hospital attempted to resuscitate her up until two days ago, she was, still, pronounced dead.  As the D.A. and police confirmed the cause of her death, they’d released her body to her kin yesterday.

The Fire Department of Taichung stated, that the elevator is not an enclosed space, and you wouldn’t suffocate to death, that if you were trapped you could use the emergency phones inside to call for help or use your own cell phone; if neither worked, you can pat the elevator walls to make the noises to get help, NEVER forcibly open the doors or climb out on your own, or SET a fire to get others’ attention.

The police found, that the elderly woman, Lee got trapped in the early morning of December 16^th of last year inside the elevator of her building, the Fire Department was called, and thought it was  a case of suicide by setting fire to oneself, after the firefighters arrived, they’d rescued the elderly woman, rushed her to the hospital for emergency resuscitation; the elderly suffered third-degree burns on her head, neck, and arms and hands as well, about thirty-percent of her skin surface was burned, the thorax, her calves, had twenty-two percent burns, they’d rushed her to the Chinese Pharmacological University Hospital, two days ago at around one in the morn, the doctors pronounced her dead due to organ faliures.

Aferwards, the investigators reviewed over the surveillance, found that the elderly entered into the elevator at around five in the morn that day, she’d not pushed any buttons for the floors, then just started, hitting the buttons hard, but, the elevator didn’t move at all; because it was too early in the morning, nobody was getting on or off the elevators, after the elderly was trapped for over thirty minutes, she’d taken out the lighter she had on her, and set fires to the posted pages of papers on the inside of the elevators, and, the fire set off the fire alarms, which finally caught the super’s attention, and he’d, rushed to rescue her.

The police believed, that the elderly was trapped inside the elevators for over thirty minutes before she’d decided to set a fire, for the sake of getting herself out, that she wasn’t, suicidal.

And so, this, showed the importance of having an activated response unit, and yet, because this elderly woman was stuck too long inside the elevators, she’d started to panic, she’d used the last resort she could think of, and ended up, getting herself killed in the process.  All of this could’ve been avoided, had someone noticed her, but it wasn’t………
