On the learning process, how a foreigner learned to speak AND write Chinese in a short time, translated…
Four years ago, I’d often seen the migrant worker hired by the Lins crying out on the lanai. One day, she’d started crying again, and I’d, prodded with her, on why she was crying? She’d told me in simple English, that this was her first time in Taiwan, and she’d only learned a few simple sentences in Mandarin, and Grandpa had spoken, with such a thick accent, and because she couldn’t understand him, he thought she was being lazy, and would often, yell at her, even hit her with his cane.
Her words made me so sad, she’s at the prime of her life, and, because of how she’d, needed to support her families, she’d come abroad to work, but because she can’t speak our language, it’d, caused such trials in her life. I’d thought for a bit, and told her, that I was, willing to, teach her some simple conversations in Mandarin, that she can come to my home to learn when grandpa was resting.
From the second day on, soon as she’d finished up, tidying up the house, she’d, come over to my home. To help her learn better, I’d, found the simple illustrated books, hoped, that she could learn, even faster with the help of the illustrations.
Lin was really studious, she’d taken notes using her own methods. Every time she’d pushed grandpa to the parks, as others are sliding on their cells, carrying on in conversations, she’d worked hard, learning to speak, and to write, and, when there was something she couldn’t understand, she’d asked those around her for help.
And now, Lin can not only read, AND write in Chinese, and, I watched, that seed I’d, planted awhile back, bloomed, into a, radiant flower finally.
And so, this just showed, how so long as you’re, willing to learn something, you will find your own resources to, but if you don’t have the drive to learn, no matter what, you won’t improve in that skill set.
