This is a bullying caused by someone who’s in a higher-up position in the armed services here, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
The former major in the marines, Huang, the assistant platoon leader was displeased at how his younger schoolmate, Lin didn’t ask him to perform onstage like he’d asked him to, he’d shoved the chewed up betel nut remains that he had chewed on, and forced him to swallowed the remains, and, used the excuse of him not performing all of his duties, forced him to drink the water out of the fish tanks. He’d openly apologized to his subordinate, and the Tainan District Court used the power status bullying clause, found him guilty of abusing his power, sentenced Huang to a year in prison and two years in probation, he can appeal for a lesser sentence.
The D.A. of the armed services investigated, that the former major, Huang (age 36), originally worked in the flight unit of the marines, focused on checking the safety, monitoring and delegating the flight plan missions, he’d used his status of power, and a lot of other subordinates who were originally lower than he was who’d climbed up the ladders, still referred to him as “older schoolmate”, and due to his work, they’d all, feared and respected him very much.
In January of last year, Huang and his fellow servicemen were dining in the restaurant in Tainan, he became displeased at how Lee, the younger classman became the middleman, and spoke on someone else’s behalf against him, in front of his superiors, he’d, tossed a half-smoked cigarette, into Lee’s glass, and ordered Lee, “You will drink this right now, and I’ll let what happened slide.” “if you don’t drink this right now, this won’t be over, not for a very long time!”
a place where there should be an honor code…
During the time of New Years when they’d stayed on base, he was displeased at how Lin didn’t go on stage to perform like he’d demanded him to, he’d ordered Lin to dress up completely, with all the weapons, and to march outside the stairs of the cafeteria of the army base, until he was satisfied.
In March of last year, Lin and men from his platoon were chatting in their quarters, he was chewing on the betel nuts, and entered, and found Lin there, and, asked him to extend his hands, he’d wanted to spit out the betel nut juices on his hand, but, Lin’s reflexes took over, he got angered, and demanded that Lin opened up his mouth, then, he’d shoved the half-chewed up remains of the betel nuts into Lin’s mouth, and demanded that he continued chewing it, and to swallow down the juices.
but…
On the same month, he’d accused Lin of not doing something he was supposed to, “if you drink this full fish tank of water, then, I’ll let you slide, and won’t pick on you from here on out”, Lin used a straw instead of gulping the water out of the fish bowl at once, he even choked on the shrimps that were in the fish tank.
Huang testified, he was only “playing around”, that Lin didn’t object to his requests, that he’d done what he’d told him to willingly. He said, perhaps, it’s because of others were displeased of how tough he was, that was why they’d, retaliated. Until the commander in the marines stepped in, Huang apologized to Lin, along with other men whom he’d, bullied, and, filed for early retirement.
The Tainan District Court considered, that Huang had been dishonorably discharged, and could no longer follow his dreams of serving in the army, had apologized to Lin, and other men he’d bullied, and they’d already decided to forgive him, he’d admitted to what he’d done during the investigative terms, and shown remorse, so the courts sentenced him to a year in prison for abuse of power, and crimes of opportunity, that he’d needed to serve a year, but can pay a fine to get out of serving the time, and placed him on probation for two years.
And so, this, is how it goes in the armed services, because you’re higher up, therefore, you believed, that nobody’s going to RAT you out when you bullied someone, and what you did was, awful, just because you’d been in the services longer, that doesn’t mean that you have the right to bully your subordinates, and perhaps, you were victimized when you just started serving your armed services terms too, who knows, but that’s still NO justification for what you’d done, and so, you got the punishment you deserved!
