Never Far from the Tastes of Home

Keeping the connections you’d made for a long time, it has, its, many benefits!  Translated…

As Mrs. Wang heard of my return from elsewhere, she’d, immediately, called me over, to get the loofa she’d planted.  I’d watched this loofa from budding, to growing the leaves, to vining, I’d even, helped Mrs. Wang with setting up the rack for the vines.  As the fruits were about to mature, I’d needed to go off for something and I’d, mumbled to myself, that I can’t see the fruits this year, but, as I’d, just returned back to the deserts, there came the call for me, to pick up the loofa, nothing was stalled.

Loofa, was something ordinary found in Taiwan, but, a hard to find delicacy in the deserts, you may not even be able to get some even IF you have the money.  Actually, not just the loofa, a lot of the fruits and vegetables found in Taiwan, is nowhere to be found in the desert regions I live in, and, as people wanted to have the produces from Taiwan, they’d had to, bring everything they got, and, only some who are, capable, will be able to, grow the produces in their backyards.

I’m lacking that green thumb, I’d, planted many years, but, nothing came of it, when I’d seen how other houses were having the fruits, I couldn’t help, but felt envious.  But gladly, I’m beyond blessed, there were, friends, old and new, who’d, shared with me, the fruits of their labors, as the autumn harvest arrived, I’d, started receiving the goods one by one.

Of them, my high school classmate, who’d, always mailed me a case of guava.  I’d not needed to send her a reminder, she’d never missed the dates, so long as she’d had a harvest of the fruits, she’d, immediately, sent me a case, and, it’d been, ten years since this had, begun, and my two kids who were ABCs, who weren’t at all, familiar with guava from Taiwan, they’d started, missing the tastes of the fruits, and, I have my classmate to thank for that.

Every time as I’d chewed down on the Taiwanese fruits, I’d savored the thoughtfulness of my many friends, although I’m, living away from home, I’m, not lonely, or alone.

And so, this, is how the connections worked, because you’d worked to establish these strong connections with those you know from before, that is why, they keep on, sending the items only found in your home country, to alleviate that scent of homesickness you may be feeling!
