A father’s worries, off the Front Page Sections, translated…
My daughter is in her first year of high school, because she’s competing in the English song contest, she’d stayed afterschool to practice. One evening, she’d even, gone to buy some foods, and arrived home fifty minutes later than she usually would. I sat, looking into the darkness of night, feeling that fear, rising up inside of me, there was, nothing I can do, to keep my mind off things.
The female graduate student, Chen from Chenggong University was murdered brutally by a male janitor, the suspect, Lin claimed that he’d once asked her for money from before, and this time, he’d asked her for $2,000N.T. more, and Chen turned him away, she’d spoken some harsh words to him, that was what caused him, to strangle her. But the police found, that the suspect was accuse of rape, as for whether or not his murdering the grad student was for the sake of money, or, because he’d, failed in attempts of, raping her, the police investigators are still, looking into the matter.
As a father with a daughter of my own, I’m truly, afraid, when, did the society, become, so dangerous to live in? The students don’t have money as is, and they’d had to get their money for living from the family, besides, the victim had, let the perpetrator borrow some money, and, what’s the difference between this case and an extortion gone bad, turning to murder?
Living in Taiwan today, we can die because of natural disasters, or, manmade disasters, we can die from random shootings, or even, unsuccessful attempted rapes too, and, we can die, when we refused to let someone borrow money from us too, there’s, always death that’s, circling all around us at any given time of day. The lives of ordinary citizens are, miniscule, I truly hope, that those ruling this country, can think hard on this, serious issue.
And so, this world is, too unsafe, you can die in an assortment of ways, and, this father is worried, because of all the bad news of the murders that were being, reported by the news, and his worries are, warranted too!
