Mail-ordered brides, with, its risks, attached, but hey, in this modern day world, aren’t we all, eager, to find love???  From the Front Page Sections, translated…

A man, Lin had found a matchmaking agency, to help him find a wife in China, after he’d gotten married, and took his wife back to Taiwan, the woman had a hard time, adapting to life here, and refused to be married to him anymore.  He’d asked the matchmaking agency to refund his money, but the Taoyuan District Court believed, that the matchmaking company had, fulfilled ITS end of the bargain, and ruled in favor of the agency.

The Taoyuan District Court investigated, that Lin is still single past age forty, his parents wanted grandchildren, and kept urging him to “get married and start having babies, to pass the family name”.  Last year, he’d asked a matchmaking company to help him find a wife in China, and, the matchmaker from China had, introduced him to a woman, and last September he’d married Wu in China, and lived together.

Lin pointed out, that he’d spent a total of $350,000N.T. on the fees of the matchmaker, the dowry, but as his newlywedded wife came over, in just a month, she’d used the excuse of not being able to adapt to life here, having a hard time, living in a big family, and gone back on her promise of marriage, and refused to register for marriage with him, went back to China.  Lin believed he was cheated, that the matchmaking company had, overcharged him, and SUED for the over $100,000N.T. they’d charged him.

In the court sessions, the matchmaking company stated, that as they were called by Lin, they’d, only collected the amount that the matchmaker from China, Chen had, asked them for.  And last September, as Lin and Wu were successfully matched up, they’d hosted a wedding banquet in China, Lin had, handed all the jewelries, the dowries, to the woman’s family, and the money for the woman’s parents, the charges of the match made internationally, the fees for the registration of their marriage, all came out, of the money that Lin had, paid the agency, that the matchmaking agency didn’t take a dime of the money.

After the judge sorted through the facts, he’d believed, that marriage should be from free will, that it shouldn’t be, forced, that the woman’s going back on marrying him has to do with maladaptation to the environment and the habits of living, that Lin couldn’t blame it on the matchmaking agency.  And that all the procedures were, completed in China, so, the woman’s family didn’t need to give Lin back the dowries, and the payments of the banquets.

That would be the problem when you BUY your wives, because you don’t know what you’re getting into, you do NOT have any clue of the woman’s family, and everything else, and that, is why, these sorts of things can easily, go south, like it had in this case.
