Retrieving of Demented Elderly Became the Primary Tasks of Police Officers

In recent years, of the cases the members of the public had gone to the police for help over, finding the demented elderly who’d, wondered off, took up most of these, of the Taipei Police Department, there were, over 700 demented elderly who’d wandered off, who were, recovered in just Taipei alone, and, counting up to the end of this July, the police had helped recovered close to 400 elderly persons, on average, there is more than one elderly person who’d needed police assistance, and how to prevent the demented elderly from wandering off became, a primary issue.

The head of the elderly sect of the Social Services Department, Yeh said, that by last September, the statistics showed, that elderly ages sixty-five and over had reached o 16.1 percent of total population, he’d estimated, that in four more years, the population of elderly will get up to twenty-percent, meaning, that out of every ten people, two would be sixty-five and older, and, Taiwan will march into the category of “Extremely elderly society” based off of the definitions of U.N.  He’d told, that there would be around 22,000 elderly person out of the 450,000 who will be, demented.

And so, since 1998, the social services organizations had, mass produced the bracelets, Yeh told, that so long as there’s an elderly who’d been diagnosed with dementia by a physician, then, the family can receive one bracelet, and, from its installation, there were, 8,499 people who were, registered, and, there are 980 people who are still currently, using the systems of registry.  And, the Social Services Department also reimbursed the families for buying a GPS system for the elderly, since its start back in 2014 there are, eighty-three who’d, applied, and the low income households would receive $10,000N.T. in reimbursements, while the ordinary households receive $7,000N.T.s.

And so, there’s, now, this need, for these systems to get instilled, because, as the population ages, there would be, more and more elderly who became, demented, and this, is a necessity now, as the communities all over the world, is getting older by the minute here.
