The Sixty-Seven-Year-Old Daughter-in-Law Took Care of One Elderly Two Young, Stated that Her Mother-in-Law is Mentally Ill, and is a Danger to Herself, that She’d Tied Her Up, in Order to Protect Herself, the Department of Social Services: Using the Wrong Methods IS Against the Law, and Considering Placement of the Mother-in-Law.

An elderly woman in Changwha was tied up using a red plastic rope around the neck by her daughter-in-law, with her hands, tied to her back, onto the lanai, after the image was posted online, the online community started ranting, the police called the social workers out of emergency yesterday to rescue the elderly, the elderly’s daughter-in-law cried and told them, that her mother-in-law is deaf and mute, and has a mental condition would mutilate herself often, that having her tied up is for the sake of taking care of her, and protecting her from herself, even though the police and the social workers understood that the daughter-in-law’s heart was in the right place, they’d still turned the case to the district attorney’s office.

Based off of the social workers’ investigations, the elderly woman’s daughter-in-law is sixty-seven years old, her current husband is forty-eight, they’re nineteen years apart, and they were able to have twin daughters via in vitro fertilization who are in middle school right now, she’d cherished her current marriage very much, and followed her husband’s commands word for word, he’d even taught her how to tie up her mother-in-law himself, and even though she’d needed to take care of her teenage daughters, and her mother-in-law, she’d not shown any signs of anger, or regrets, the social workers who’d come were moved by her.

The police said, that the elderly woman lives on the second floor, the officers rang the bell, as the daughter-in-law opened the door, they’d rushed to the lanai to console the elderly, and took her into the bedroom.  The police pointed out, that although there was still room between her neck after the red plastic rope’s tied on, there’s still chance of her choking to death, if she were to trip and fall.

The social worker learned, that the elderly is around eighty years old, two years ago, she’d moved from her home in Kinmen to this location, was looked after by her daughter-in-law, and there were two middle-school aged granddaughters who’d lived there too, the elderly woman’s son works in China, and only comes home once a year, and rarely sent any money home, the livelihood is solely reliant off of the a little over ten thousand dollars’ retirement pension of the elderly woman’s husband, and because the woman needed to take care of her own two teenage daughters, there’s not enough money, and so, she’d, borrowed money from her friends, relatives, and families a lot.

The Department of Social Services pointed out, that the elderly was diagnosed with multiple psychological disorders, including schizophrenia, mental retardation, etc., etc., etc., and couldn’t control when she needed to go to the bathrooms, and sometimes, when she was relapsing, she’d, walked around the house the whole night, and started mutilating herself, she’d bled often, that tying her up is for the sake of her own protection, so she could easily look after her own mother-in-law, that the rope around her neck wasn’t TIED around her neck, that she’d never intended to hurt her mother-in-law.

The social workers planned to place the elderly into a nursing home, and gets the government to carry the fees, but the woman told them, that she’d promised her husband she was to look after her, and didn’t want her to leave.  The social workers suggested that she gives herself time and room to breathe, that she should place her mother-in-law in a nursing home facility temporarily.

The head of the protective section of the Social Services Department of Changwha, Huang said, that because the elderly mutilated herself, the daughter-in-law had tied her up around the neck on the lanai, maybe, it was, for the sake of her own protections, that she’d not intended her mother-in-law any harm, but, she’d used the wrong methods and broken the laws.  Huang said, that if the daughter-in-law is insistent on taking care of the elderly on her own, they will counsel her, to find a right way to help keep her mother-in-law better, and will keep a close eye on the family too.

The online community originally left nasty messages to the families of the elderly woman, “So awful, the elderly are old, couldn’t fight, but they can still feel”, “in the future, her children shall treat her exactly like that too”, “you’re blessed enough, to not have an awful mother-in-law, and you’d, abused her!”, etc., etc., etc.,; but later, as the facts of the case were out, there were members of the online community who’d empathized with the daughter-in-law, and, there’s hardships in every family, that the outside world shouldn’t comment on.

And this, is a problem that’s, getting serious, you have elderly taking care of the elderly in this case, the woman was way too tried, way too out of it, to take good care of her mother-in-law, and her mother-in-law has a mental illness, which required professional interventions, but the woman didn’t have the resources or the knowledge to seek help from outside, but now, the social services stepped in, and helped the family out.
