Is the Violence in the Workforce Caused by Bullying in the Workplace?

Blood shed in the O.R., from the Front Page Sections, translated…

In a certain midstrip medical center there was a hacking, a male medical technician hacked a female nurse who was in charge of managing the surgeons at work, afterwards, the suspect stated on FB that he will “end bullying in the workplace”, and the hospital posted a statement, that there was absolutely “No incidents of bullying in the workforce, of giving him the bad shifts”.

Bullying in the workforce is the bullying occurring during work, it may be from superior to subordinate, between the colleagues, or the subordinates to the superiors, and the measures may involve passing gossips, to damage the reputations, or prevent a person from doing her/his work effectively overly or covertly, singling someone out with the rest of the coworkers, blocking someone from getting a promotion that s/he deserved, or name calling publicly, even getting physically violent.  What should be noted is, a lot of those who’d felt bullied at the workplace only felt that their superiors had, demanded more of them, or that they were displeased at the punishment for something they’d not done correctly, and all of these, would NOT constitute as bullying in the workforce.

The statistics from abroad showed, there are about thirty-percent of the public who were actually bullied in the workforce, but, those who’d come out are, numbered, with the reasons as follows: first, the bullied didn’t even realize that they were being, bullied, secondly, even if they knew it, they didn’t know how to handle it, third, they’d worried what would happen to them at work after it got out, fourth, the organization didn’t have an effective way of handling bullying in the workforce.  Bullying in the workforce doesn’t just affect the individuals bullied, their physical, psychological health, or work performances, but also, if it became a trend, it would, affect the entire unit’s operating well.

The most important thing in preventing bullying in the workforce is the company needed a precise rule on prevention, and helped the workers define the boundaries clearly.  And, the companies needed to have seminars on the subject of bullying and training, so the employees can recognize the actions as it happened to them or others, and have a clear cut way of filing for the grievances and how the company would handle such matter, and host board meetings to discuss these matters regularly.  As for the workers, they’d needed to see, if they’re, able to perform the job, and if they couldn’t, and felt pressured at work, they should, go to their superiors and ask for help, and if you feel you may be bullied, you needed to find a legal way to stop the bullying.

This matter is involved in another issue, violence in the workforce, in an operating room, where lives were originally saved, there was, blood being spilled.  The violence in the workplace may occur between the coworkers, or between the employees and clients, the abusers usually show anti-social tendencies, substance abuse, or priors in assaults.  Before the physical violence happens, there’s usually complaints, stalking, and even, threats; if this had happened, there’s a need, to get both parties away from their current posts.

After the violence in the workforce happens, the organizations shouldn’t just pay attention to the victims, but also, needs to be more tentative of the psychological responses of everybody else in the office, and, the management of the company needs to discuss on whether if they may need to change some rules in managing, or the culture of the workplace, to prevent similar events from reoccurring.

And so, it’s not just as simple as “SNAPPED”, there’s always a reason, being bullied too long, being singled out by the rest of the coworkers, or, having too much of a workload, any of these combined factors, can make someone CRACK, and, when someone CRACKS, s/he will, CRACK open, and, cause a whole lot of mess, and, the best way is still prevention, by caring more about each other at work, and, set up a counseling office (like in the HR department???), where the workers can go, and just, talk it through to someone.
